Tstat wire for PW Accessories

I have read that many use Tstat wire for accessories, and I would like to as well. Is there any concern using 18 gauge wire for PW accessories with motors like the 313, 364, 97, etc.? I know I wouldn't use that gauge for train power, but some of these accessories have sizeable motors. Is the wire at risk of overheating, especially if I get a short somewhere?
