A knowledgeable train friend of mine says it is most likely just a rumor. The 1943 is not equipped with the proper cab signal box and to install it would be expensive. So If it were coming it would be number 2 locomotive.

UP 1943 is or at least was equipped with Conrail/PRR cab signals... that’s how it was able to lead on NS earlier this summer.
