Reply to "Wedding Cake Table with Trains, update"

Hello Carey,

Glad to see your project is coming together nicely.

My suggestion is why not set the cake onto a bed of roses (radiating outward) as well.  The cake diameter of 8" seems a bit small relative to your display and proposed 6" round second tier.  Wouldn't a base tier of say 10" and 6" top be better aesthetically?  The reason for my suggestion is that the ratio of 10 vs. 6 gives a value very close to what is known as the golden number.  A value found to exist in nature that lends to a balance to ones eye.  Many famous painters and architects have used this ratio in their works (1.618).  In your case for a 6" top you would need a 9.7" base thus the recommendation for a 10 inches.

The roses will very aromatic, given they are fresh from a Californian's yard!  Would you consider adding some sprigs of Babies Breath to dress it up a bit possibly.  I'm envious that your roses are in bloom while my dormant roses are being blanketed by a early spring snow storm (typical Michigan weather).

The transformers could be hidden under the table on a separate platform or stool.  This would require a long skirted table cloth.  Thus it wouldn't take away from the picturesque setup that you have in mind.  To date, I haven't seen any transformers that look well with a wedding cake.  This also frees up the two corners for something else that would be more inline with the wedding e.g. photo's of yourselves as youngsters or early family portraits.

Hope this helps as a thought starter.

woo! lots of great ideas, thanks for your input!
