Bob, thank you so much for the sanity check!  Collecting stuff for a layout to primarily cover the era from 46 to 57 (end of steam/first gen diesels) I have looked for olive drab mail boxes.  I know this is what I recalled from my first decade or so one this little blue orb.  I tried some quick searches to verify my recollections with no joy.  So concluded memories must be clouded.  

 

But this proves my memories of dropping letters into olive drab mail boxes.  Too bad no manufacturer does not make the three wheel scooter/trucks used for delivery.  

 

Thanks again for sanity/reality check.  I am looking at the USPS site you referenced for other details.  Will just have to paint some boxes olive drab.  But not all based on design feature of intended build.
