@Scott Smith please tell us more about this tinplate Polar Express.  A tinplate PE was something that I hoped for and over the years while at York casually lobbied MTH and Lionel to consider and come to an agreement to make such an offering under their Lionel Corporation Tinplate collaboration.  Hopefully, when the time comes when Mike Wolf and his successors @MTH decide to bring out their tinplate tooling for another production run, they will work again with Lionel to bring a tinplate Polar Express to market.  IMHO it would be a WIN/WIN/WIN for MTH, LIONEL and Hobbyists.   BELIEVE

I showed Mike Phillips from Lionel the locomotive and cars at York. I paint matched my O-Gauge passenger cars to create this set. I purchased an old #318 shell along with some unpainted 300 series cars. The painted 318 shell will be removed in January and replaced with the gray MTH shell that came with the engine. This allows me to have the Polar Express during the holidays without buying another train. I used the Polar Express paint and painted 3 buildings as well.
