Going through my files and found this old map.

You can ride a bicycle from Pittsburgh, PA to Hagerstown MD and a bit further. Connellsville, PA is a transition from P&LE RR to Old western Maryland, Connellsville Extension RR. Continental Divide, the small village of Deal. All down hill to Washington DC or Baltimore. C&O Canal Path trail is dirt, but a parallel Western Maryland bike trail, is paved.

Between Deal and Frostburg MD is the big Savage Tunnel.
