In the midst of this unfortunate Coronavirus crisis, I accomplished a milestone on my layout. After working on it continuously for almost three years and twenty years after the scene was started, I finally filled a large scenic gap on my layout which extended for about 35 feet, between Mifflin Interlocking and the great curved stone arch bridge traversing Tuscarora Creek. Final work took place with the installation of the bridge railing, and the first train (a double headed K-4 Pacific passenger train) roared over the bridge at 9:58 PM this past Sunday evening.
Here are pictures that show that event, as well as some overall photos of the scene. There are also detail shots of some of the trees I built and the line pole right of way along the tracks. The farm scene I finished a few years ago and the eastern side of the PA Route 75 concrete highway bridge at Port Royal at the edge of the area can be seen too. More images of the the Route 75 bridge to follow next week.
Of note is the fact that the bridge was poured out of 153 lbs of Hydrocal plaster over a period of four hours almost 20 years ago. It has taken that long to get the scene completed. My son who is frequently pictured on here and is now almost age 21 was fast asleep in his crib while his mother and I mixed and poured all that plaster!
