Did you have guests over during that period?
Several years ago when my buddies came over for a train night the WVRR was running great then a dead short appeared on one loop. A minute later it was running fine. Then a dead short manifested itself on another loop, but it also was fine after a couple minutes. All cars were on the tracks and this occurred at different times throughout the evening.
Finally, one of the guys confessed that he was putting, and removing a quarter from the tracks when my back was turned. He was good, no one else saw him do this and he held back giggling.
I still gotta find a way to get even!
