To celebrate I bought a MTH LIRR RS-3 w/ PS-2. Love this paint scheme from the 50's. Can't wait to get it on the layout.
I like it. On the LIRR , these colors was referred to as the Sweep Scheme which appeared initially on the Century 420 fleet the LIRR acquired starting in late 1963. Existing RS-3s and RS-1s were repainted into these colors. So you can make nice consists with cars still in the greys with dashing dans, Cars in Grey with the orange bands, Cars in the MTA platinum and blue, as well as the cars of numerous railroads which were in LIRRs parlor fleet, many of which ran in their former owners colors.
MTH has done the RS-1 in this scheme as well and Both RS-1 and RS-3 in the earlier Goodfellow Orange and Geys dating back to 1955.
