Happy Valley was indeed an idyllic place to grow up. My childhood home was in the village of Boalsburg, three miles east of State College. I left after college to attend Aviation Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, and except for a 3-year overseas tour in the mid-1980s I have lived in the South ever since. I still love Central Pennsylvania, but I don't miss the long, gloomy winters.
