One question... in the second pic, it appears that there is a piece of Fastrack with rows of LED’s on either side. What is that all about???

Near as I can tell, it's a home made track for the Polar Express. When wired up properly, the lights light up when the train crosses the track; one theory is that it's supposed to represent going across the ice...
