I don't think we can 'get' people into the hobby except by letting people who might be interested see model railroads. I guess that means at shows where they normally wouldn't see them.
Otherwise, people are going to be into model trains or they won't. My interest in model or 1:1 trains was indulged by my parents as a kid but I don't think anyone specifically was responsible for that and I never saw a real model railroad until long after I was already interested in the idea.
The only thing you can hope for with any new blood in any hobby is to expose those who might get into something once they're aware of it.
