What kind of replacement smoke unit can I put into a Lionel 0-6-0 docksider? The piston type that is in there is no good

I’m looking to replace the smoke unit in my dockside. I’ve done everything I could to make it work. I think it is just a real poor design. Any help would be appreciated. I really would like it to smoke better. Thanks!
