Again, rule #1 use components with setscrews when possible. When not possible, #2 NEVER and I mean never, use the body of the motor and then press something on either shaft end (output end or brush end). That's a surefire way to ruin a motor.
If you have to press, you need jigs and other support such you are pressing only against the shaft (pressing the gear on one end, and the shaft at the other and the motor "floats"). I just use a standard arbor press.
