I was curious how 2356 was getting from Binghamton, NY to St Albans, VT, so I used Google Maps to see a route. It generated a route through Albany, NY, using the I87 Adirondack Northway to travel north from Albany to Plattsburgh (and a bit more). If you take that route, you will be traveling through Lake George, which is a popular vacation destination. There is also a six flags amusement park called "The Great Escape" in Queensbury, right off the highway.

I've done that trip up the I87 Northway many times. Once you get north of Lake George, I think it is a very nice drive.

Sorry, I have no tips on specific places to stop.
