My biggest disapointment in a lionel train was the 3419 helicopter car when I was 7 years old back in 1961. The TV commercial showed the boy launching it and it took off and soared gracefully. I picked one up after Christmas at I think Gimbels for 99 cents and when I got home and launched it, it shot up in the air spinning out of control falling to earth killing everyone on board lol. I do have a couple of them today but they are only shlef queens.
If it's any consolation to you, the original 3419 works better than the newer models.
