My Dad bought me my 1st Lionel train set **** 1950. It was set up on a 3 x 6 piece of cork board on the dining room table in our apartment in Manhatten. Each year he added additional cars or an engine. There was only so much to be put on this piece of cork board. My Dad always regretted not getting American Flyer sets instead if 027 Lionel. In 1958 I saved my allowance and went to a lumber yard 26 blocks from our apartment. Bought a 4x8x1/2" piece of finished plywood. ($5.25). Didn't want to walk 26 blocks carrying sheet of plywood so I took the subway home. Only 1 stop (Dykeman St. to 191st) Set up in my bedroom. Looked great until my mother called the super to have the plywood removed.  Had all my trains until 1972. Got divorced and had to sell trains. Big mistake.
Fast forward to 1983 . Walked into Charles Ro and got back into trains with my new wife's utmost support.
Charlie and Chuck got me signed up with TCA. It's been the greatest 30 years of my life. Have built 5 layouts since and met a lot of great folks along the way.
