This lionel switcher is very poorly made (plastic non-operating couplers, single axle drive with no axle bearings, bare bone shell with no trim, stamped sheet metal frame, plastic truck side frames) back then I didn't care as I was 6 years old but in 1975, I learned to do repairs on Lionel trains as it was fun then but it is not now and just then I realized it really  truly is a piece of junk and it can pull 4 all plastic cars that's all and wanted to use a railking switcher instead and have the shell repainted like the 634 is with a much better railking chassis.  Check out the pictures of the 634 on Ebay and you will see the constructions of it.
