Yes Bob, you can enhance an image with software like Photo Shop, but if you can accomplish the same thing with some added light like a lamp and NOT have to SPEND TIME manipulating your image, that seems preferable to me. Back in the day photographers used all kinds of lighting. Remember flash bulbs?
