Reply to "Why no PRR 4-8-4 Locomotives?"

Pennsylvania's duplex drive 4-4-4-4's were essentially mid-1940's "state of the art" 4-8-4's. Why so late to the 4-8-4 type? Pennsylvania's motive power energies were invested in electrification projects in the 1930's, at the height of the 4-8-4's popularity. They got to the party late.
