Reply to "Williams large articulating engines"

Before I ordered a Williams Mfg. No. 7001 (UP Big Boy Cab No. 4020) in June 1994 equipped with the Williams/ OTT sound system, I talked to a Williams representative.  He said their planned 1995 issue to be built by Samhongsa will have greater detail than their 1989 release (also fewer; only 250 units instead of the 900 made in 1989 by Ojin).  Obviously, that doesn't square with the information found in TM's Guide but that is what is in my notes. Take it for what it's worth, it's entirely possible Williams later rolled the dice down the table betting they could sell another 950 units in addition to their first purchase order for 250 for delivery in February 1995.  Of course, MTH then cataloged their 20-3021 Big Boy in the fall of 1996 and the market was suddenly saturated for $1400 4-8-8-4 locomotives.
