Couple thoughts for future projects if you can't solder materials.

Depending on the tender type I have used wood quarter round soaked in CA glue and sanded. Gives a hard slick finish. Once a load is in the bunker you can't tell it's solid.

There are SR prototype doghouses on shapeways.
