I'm in the camp for stranded wire as well.

When buying wire, also be aware that some wire advertised as copper wire may actually be mostly aluminum or other inferior metals and only a small amount of copper. It may be a little more expensive, but I think you'll be better served by buying all copper wire and not "copper clad".
