Reply to "Wiring Lionel Fastrack"

Isolating blocks when using DCS has to do with the potential for DCS not to operate properly because of signal overload from too many sources when you have multiple power drops to your track and no separation with track blocks.

However, many operators do not experience this problem and the use of blocks is not required.

You have a  number of options - you can build your layout with no blocks and see if there are any issues with DCS operation - if there are, you can simply cut the FT center rail with a Dremel saw every few track sections on either side of your power drops and you have instant blocks. You could also assemble your layout by pulling the center pin and creating blocks from the start.

Finally, Lionel makes special 1 3/8" sections of track (6-12060) that already have a cut in the center rail but, underneath, it comes with a wire that electrically connects one side to the other. You can build your layout with these small sections where the cuts would ordinarily go for blocks and leave the wire in and then see if there are any DCS issues - if there are none, you're all set, if there are issues, you can then simply remove the wire from underneath each small section and you have instant blocks.
