I thought that type of decay was limited to MTH's Amfleet sets. I have 2 Metra Amfleet sets that I had to replace all of the couplers right after I bought them. The guy that sold them to me thought I was making it up. Even though the were new sets, all of the couplers were shot. Once I replaced the couplers the sets were perfect.
