It didn't trip and I don't want to damaged anything.

If you install a 10 amp breaker, it won't trip instantly either.
But I guess it would trip faster than the 15 amp ones.
Note that the Lionel service manual says up to 40 seconds at 30 amps for an acceptable trip time.
