Re: Fourth Annual “Lionels at the Library” Special Event w/LCCA

Mike H Mottler ·
HEADS UP: A record-breaking snowfall brought a very white Christmas to much of Arkansas on Christmas Day. 10-12 inches accumulated in North Little Rock and environs, and the roads are impassible with widespred power outages. FYI, Laman Library was closed on Wednesday (12-26-12) and will also be closed on Thursday (12-27-12) because of the white stuff. We believe conditions will be suitable for visitation on Friday (12-28-12) and beyond to Monday (12-31-12), whichis the closing day of the...

LIONEL - WARRANTY WORK - WORK Completed!! - Train Runs Again

Gettle08 ·
So, back on 4/21 I posted a problem that I had with a Lionel Lionchief Plus engine I bought at the York Train Show. I bought the GP7 from the LCCA. The guy gave me a deal, because my little two year old is building with daddy a UP train layout. When we got home, we were all excited to run our new toy. We ran the engine for 10-20minutes. In that time the smoke unit went out. That is when I made a post asking for help. After a couple calls to Lionel, they said they would fix the engine. So,...

Howard Hitchcock interview at LCCA from Notch 6

Landsteiner ·
Not much discussion of this interview from a few days ago but I found it quite informative and interesting. (1) Lionel's 2017 sales outdid any year in the last 10. In a good way . Frees them up to try some new things (see below) with some of the profits. (2) Lionel has "6-7 factories" in China and a couple of facilities in the USA. (3) Lionel's "ready to play" sets are a big part of their sales, and this holiday season these sets will be at Target and Costco. (Some of you turn your nose up...

Hey all, For the last few weeks I have been waiting for the weather to improve and it looks like this weekend will be the weekend when I finally get to put some lacquer on my latest benchwork - 5x Lionel Collector Club of America (LCCA)/ Lionel FasTrack Modular Railroad Modules. Here is the track plan that will span four of those five modules. All of the curves, switches, and wyes are O-72's and all of the track will be Lionel FasTrack. I am seriously considering adding a Lionel Switch Throw...

Why limit yourself to O-scale guys? The HO guys around here enjoy switching on my layout. They like the larger trains and the fact that you can easily read the car numbers when switching. I've been hosting regular monthly operating sessions since 2004.

A great idea to get people and especially kids and help them get involved with the great hobby of model trains. Nothing like getting people and kids hands on operating model trains. It's one thing to read about them and it's another thing when you see them run and even run them. Dave

I am not aware of anyone looking to bring a GGD locomotive to run on the layout. However, I plan on running the following locomotives: 1) Lionel LionChief Pennsylvania Flyer with BlueTooth 2) Lionel LEGACY NS SD60 lash-up; First Responders and Veterans 3) Lionel LionChief Plus NH Rectifier 4) Williams Chuggington Wilson Historically, there are a few derailments at every show. Almost all of those derailments have been on the outer mainline. Seldom do outer mainlline derailments impact trains...

Rattler21, I have not heard of an individual or a group bringing an switching problem to York. Historically, most clubs are not willing to let children play with their trains, supervised or otherwise. I do know that the Mohegan Council in SECT does an annual rail safety event in Norwich, CT where kids get together to work on the railroading merit badge. I was not in attendance at last years event though I did hear that it was a success. I originally intended for this set of modules to be...

Marty, Please stop on by and bring your friends. I have built over 35 FasTrack Modules at this point and I have a learned a lot about the entire process. I will be happy able to answer any questions you might have. Additionally, it is my hope that in future York Train Shows individuals will be able to bring their modules together to build a super railroad that is BIG! Perhaps you, your friends, and your modules will be able to join MPRR in the fall? If you would like to help me setup,...

This is false. The problem is that everyone *thinks* they know how to handle trains. Nevertheless, if they're not yours, keep your grimy hands off! Especially the high end stuff. You may know what you're doing, but the guy who bought it doesnt know that, and still probably doesnt want you touching it, even if it seems like you're helping. Its also not the first time there's been a layout in the orange hall. Over the last several years they've off and on had a layout over in the room behind...

BoilerMaker, I don’t dare press the rules of the show. However, my mother taught me not to touch anything that I am not ready to replace it after it crashes to the floor. It’s a good rule and has served me well for a few short decades. You are right. There was a typo in the original post. This will be the first time a railroad will be setup in the foyer of the Orange Hall. The railroad will be setup around the corner from the TCA booth. Great catch and I look forward to meeting you and many...

Re: UP 44 Tonner?

Chuck Sartor ·
Just speaking from my own opinion, not sanctioned from the LCCA, I highly doubt it. When was the last time Lionel made a run of the '44' ton switchers? I think the Rock Island was the last one, sometime around 1995. The Lou Caponi era is gone, and not likely we will ever see some of the neat operating accessories that were planned either.

I think I'd shift the switches 10", or all the way to the left to cut out possible impact on backing through the double S curves you have now. A non imapct chase works best with a slowdown and a stop track both(they use the same switch/relay, but where stop gets nothing, slow gets a ceramic resistor or diode chain to drop from a preset voltage. So still only a two block control, but three blocks, full power, slow power, stop. If you read the max volt and amps(to get watts) used by those...
