Wasn't the "Industrial" track selection very limited, and Atlas has since expanded their line of "Atlas O" track to include O27 curves and O36 switches etc? I would suppose that Atlas has chosen to focus more on the upscale O-gauge market, and not have two different track systems.

The Atlas O line is just track and doesn't come with a roadbed. They have some roadbed pieces in the catalog but I don't know if they are manufacturing any.

If you are working a temporary layout, then YES you have a problem. If you are building a permanent layout, buy regular Atlas O and add roadbed from the many suppliers out there.

Atlas has had 027 curves and 036 switches in the line up for years, the 036 switches may have been hard to find in the last couple of years, I don't know. I have had some Atlas O 036 switches and a factory box of 027 curves for several years, I wish that Atlas would produce some 027 switches to go with the curves that I have. I want to build a couple of "Coffee Table" layouts on hollow core doors, and need the 027 switches that Atlas hasn't made yet(or even said they would ever make). IIRC,...

To me, it seems all of the major O importers have lost focus. We hear Atlas here. WBB is a shell of when it was under Jerry. MTH has cut back on RTR sets. Only Lionel has kept up with some sort of low end product.

I spent a lot of time debating the very same thing and finally decided on Scale Trax, because of its low profile and nearly invisible center rail. When it is laid and ballasted, nothing looks better (IMHO). Take a look at pictures of ballasted rail system and you will most likely agree. That being said, there are many time when I wish I hadn't gone with Scale Trax. Right now I am working on a Christmas layout for this year and want to use my Scale Trax. Being a Christmas layout it needs to...

Atlas-O trucks are mounted differently. Call Bill Serrelli at Atlas to find out how to access trucks from inside after removing shell. You may also ask about removing the shell. I found that it is easier to remove shell if you remove all the side frames to get better access to body mount screws.

Alan Starting with the 1970's era O gauge product line (made in Austria by Roco) over the years Atlas revised the design of their O scale coupler at least 5 times. The one common denominator was a coupler box with snap on lid and hidden mounting screws that do not match Kadee's spacing or setback from the end sill. The latest AtlasO design has a Kadee 805 clone head with an external spring. As you've discovered they still have issues but as others have pointed out the cane operate better if...

Most people that have worked with Atlas"O" turnouts power all three rails at all three entrances to the turnout to alleviate the issues you're seeing. Early production had undersized wiring between the gaps in the rails; even later production has what I consider under-sized wiring considering we have the capability of supplying 15 amps of current on our rails.... Short answer, your problems can be fixed, but you'll likely need to I install some jumpers along the way.

Atlas switch problems

NS6770Fan ·
I have used Atlas switches all of my life and recently have noticed some things. First, I have had many switches misalign after a train is done going through them. I recently had an SD40-2 hit the floor due to this. I have also encountered many derailments. I know the easy solution would be to buy a ton of switch machines, but at 10 dollars a piece, that’s a little to much for a switch lock. Anyway I plan to add tortoises eventually so this would be a waste of money. I really don’t want to...

Atlas ALCO Acting Up

lehighline ·
I have a Atlas ALCO C-425, long out of warranty but with very little run time on it. I recently decided to put it back on the track and let it stretch it's legs. However, it acts weird. It fires up just fine, with all the sounds as they should be. But when I started it moving, it surges. The sounds do not change with the surging. I did see some sparks coming from the rear roller, but not consistently. After about half a lap around the layout, it suddenly stopped dead. No sounds, no motion. I...

It does look very nice from the pictures others have posted here on the forum. You could try a forum search for Ross road bed and see what others have posted. Atlas does have the smaller curve sizes in the 21st Century line as Ace has stated above. Also, I have had good luck calling Atlas with questions, you might try asking them about...

I went with Atlas track and switches and have very happy with it over the last few years. I would choose it again as well. I looked at all track systems before narrowing it down to Atlas and Scaletrax. I found it difficult to find anyone that carried Scaletrax and Atlas had a much better selection of switches and curves. Also, Scaletrax is the only track type that my LHS does not carry. If you have things narrowed down to these two track types, my honest recommendation to you would be to go...

Re: Scaletrax or Atlas O switches - 2017 suggestions

Scaletrax switches are really only compatible with Scaletrax track and vice versa. The rails are low profile as well. If you are using Scaletrax track, you should try to use Scaletrax switches. There are no Scaletrax adapters for other track systems. If you aren't using Scaletrax track, find another switch, Ross or Atlas. Otherwise, you will be laying the switches without track joiners and will be shimming the switches to mate the rail height. George

Re: Scaletrax or Atlas O switches - 2017 suggestions

George S ·
BTW, if you haven't picked a track system, Atlas can be mated to Gargraves and Ross track with Atlas specialty joiners. There are ways to get all the other track systems to work together, but not easily with Scaletrax. That doesn't mean that Scaletrax is bad. It is a highly attractive product. It is just a closed system, kind-of like Apple products.
