Lionel 1012 Transformer Question

Consolidated Leo ·
I got into an old box of Lionel trains and found that a small transformer had a frayed power cord where it goes into the unit. I'm pretty careful about messing with this kind of stuff and I think I know what to attempt to do to fix it (solder and shrink wrap). But it looks a bit discolored and I'm not sure if this thing will work after all. It's a Lionel model 1012 transformer without the screw terminals (are those available anywhere). I took some pictures. What do you think?

Rare or Variation?

Cobrabob ·
I have a question for everyone out there. In 1991 I purchased a Lionel 6-19408 Frisco gondola car with coil covers. When I got home I placed it on my layout to run and I noticed that one of the coil covers does not have the number on it on one side. The other coil cover has the number on both sides along with the Frisco Railroad logo. My question is does anyone else have this car with this variation on it and also is it worth anything? Cobrabob

3462 & 3472 Milk Car Question

Dan Padova ·
Correct me if I'm wrong. The 3462 milk car used magnetic cans, while the 3472 used non-magnetic cans. The reason I ask is that I just received a 3472 milk car and tested it on my test track. The cans were failing to drop into the lower portion of the discharge mechanism. After removing the body from the frame, I placed one of the cans against the portion of the chute where they begin to drop down to be unloaded. The can stuck to the outside of the chute. Viola ! I believe the seller sent me...

New O Gauge Modeler with Intermodal and Coal Industry Questions

Brian Hubbs ·
Hello, this is my first post in the OGR Forums. I just recently bought my first O gauge product, an MTH Railking ES44AC (BNSF) with a flat car with trailer, a coal hopper, and caboose. I have modeled in N scale for years but my worsening arthritis and peripheral neuropathy makes that impractical any more. Besides, I’d always wanted an O gauge layout. My question: what is available, industry-wise, for these two freight cars I currently own? I would like some type of intermodal terminal and...

DCS indicates "HI BRC battery", is that a concern?

Biglou ·
I posted this question earlier, but did not indicate which forum it should appear on. I'm getting an indication on my DCS that the BCR is registering as HI on my MTH Premier UP USRA 0 6 0 switcher. I just had the battery replaced with a BCR. My question is, is a reading of "BATTERY HI" dangerous to running the engine? It was running great for the past several days, so I'm not sure if I should be concerned. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lou

Question regarding DCS ENgines won't move

jimmydean ·
Hi, It has been more than 4 years since I ran my trains. I have cleaned / lubed everything. (Track, engines, switches etc.) I charged the engines using the MTH charger for 12 hours. My problem is that I am getting intermittent results when trying to run the engines. They all start up and respond to commands like PFS, coupler, etc from the handheld. I am assuming that this means the DCS signal is adequate on the track. More often that not they fail to move. I tried to search for this problem...

Question about derailments

DavidR ·
I'm new to O gauge building first layout using Fastrack. I previously modeled N and HO, so that's where my experience has been. In the smaller scales it is always prudent to leave enough space between the track and edge of layout so equipment doesn't descend to the floor after a derailment (almost always in N, about 25% of the time in HO. With the broader spacing between rails, and the third rail in the middle, I would think leaving the track after a moderate speed derailment is rare in O,...
