Lionel B&O F-3 ABA

wb47 ·
Here is a really nice ABA set in the darker blue B&O livery. Powered A, dummy B and dummy A. TMCC with odessey. This set runs incredibly smooth as a train (consist) Crawls at slow speed. It does not have all of the speed steps that legacy has but runs as smooth. 6-14566 powered A, 14567, non powered A, and 14558 non powered B, set box is 14565, all boxes are included and in great shape. I bought this set new and my home is smoke free. I never used the smoke. I like the horn on this one.

Repair for Lionel Holiday Christmas Train - O Gauge

Lionel no longer services this product. I have two sets and after taking them both back out of the box today, I cannot get either of them to run. Can anyone direct me to someone who can take on a repair of this sort? Thanks, Jerry T

Most usually the price on a train item is significantly higher if it includes a nice crisp box; meaning all the flaps intact without tears, no penicil-crayon-ink markings, sales stickers, adhesive residue and no creases, holes, tears in the cardboard. Many accessories, engines and some odd shaped cars had cardboard inserts inside the box. Those have value as well. Nearly all pricing is based on rarity, condition, and demand.

Hey what about the outer shipping boxes? Are they worth saving in addition to the item's shelf box? I am unpacking all my trains to store on train room shelves. The brown cardboard shipping boxes take up a lot of room and I'd rather not keep them. None of them are older than 1995 anyway. Hoppy

If you actually keep the inner boxes inside the shipping boxes, it's not a lot of extra room. (well, it adds up a little based on the thickness of the cardboard, but I assume you mean keeping them separate form the inner box?) They can help protect the inner box so it doesn't get as much shelf wear over the years (dinged corners, marks from sliding across the shelf, etc). Value probably not a huge differential, but they definitely can help preserve the inner box. Given a choice, I prefer an...

I agree Jim, that western pacific car is pretty nice and I think somewhat scarce, but what most of us have are stuff like this: lionel lehigh valley black hopper car, lionel sunoco 3 dome tank car, lionel 6457 caboose with rough box, or lionel 3461x lumber car with rough box, how about putting a price on these just for example and then how much extra would a box left rough be worth over a box with tape? Just for example thanks, now be careful or you might own these! Thanks

Here's an example of a box that is worth as much if not more than its contents. It just walked into the local train shop as part of its train set (#2223W). The owner had no idea of its value or rarity. He was amply rewarded in the four figure price we paid for the set. You never know what's out there. As far as box restoration is concerned, it can be approached with the same techniques as used for museum preservation of valuable paper documents. It's just a matter of matching the degree of...

This brings back an awkward childhood memory. About age 8 or 9 I received a new Daisy BB gun for my birthday. A short time later a buddy and I were in the basement trying it out and deciding what to attack next, we found a stash of, you guessed it, Lionel train boxes. We probably peppered about 15-20 of them full of BB holes, then threw them in the trash. I guess it seemed like a great idea at the time! Thankfully the respective cars were on the layout and the boxes were empty! I seem to...

After receiving a few old postwar lionel boxes with corresponding accessories or engines or cars. A thought hit me. I think others would share my sentiments. You can't run the boxes... That's true. But there are people out there who are more interested in collecting Lionel trains than running them. Nobody really knows which group is larger. Many do both. Some of those people like to have their Lionel trains in their original boxes and are willing to pay a premium for them. This is not unique...

Re: 2024 Parts Info

GeoPeg ·
What I'm specifically after is the part number for a grooved drive wheel, non-geared wheel. This engine has only one traction tire, and it can barely pull itself out of bed in the morning, let alone a consist of 5 cars. Train Tender has a geared, grooved MPC era wheel, but I would like to stick closer to an original look, and of course, I'm not at all certain it would fit. Need a part number for the grooved wheel that is on there - one more should do the trick.

2024 Parts Info

I'm beginning to think the Lionel 2024 is a "lost" engine - I can't find any parts info anywhere, including Olsen's, Train Tender, and a couple of other places. Does anyone have an exploded view plus parts list?

The reason I am very interested in improving my 1055 is that it has the tightest drive train I have ever seen on a Lionel diesel - Almost NO slop in the gears or the bearings. I intend to keep it that way, plus add some traction to it for a great little puller/pusher. OK, quiz time - what's the difference between these wheels? The two on the right are traction tire wheels, courtesy of two very generous lads on this forum - thank you again!! The one on the left is a plain wheel, straight out...

I'm only guessing but looks like transformer for the inexpensive sets 70's - 90's you didn't give a great pic of it. trying to determine if the black cord is a plug to plug into a outlet either way with the forward reverse switch it's for a DC train set of some type.

Anyone build Lionel demonstrator layout?

rrman ·
Finished reading the Classic Trains magazine detailing all the Lionel dealer demonstration layouts.  I know that OGR published an article where Jim B. built one using fast track as close replacement for Super O. Granted these layouts were not complex, and designed to run trains in circles and animate alot of accessories for show to draw people into the store. As aside, growing up in Pittsburgh in early '50s, my Christmas high was going to Horne's, Kaufman's, Gimbel's, and...

What happened to the original one? I have re-used turbine insulation plates that were cracked or broken in half. I have found that if you are able to put them in place and reattach the collector assembly, they will stay in place. They also work fine with little chips here and there, as long as the chips are not too serious.

How bad is the original that you need to replace it? The only supplier that showed the 671-186X was Dew Associates, and sadly it is "OUT OF STOCK". All the other suppliers I have bookmarked, only list the 1947 style in stock. There is an alternative, if the original isn't badly damaged. You can try to use Card Stock, like poster board, and make one, by tracing the outline of the original. Then use an Xacto knife to cut the slits, and use small drill bit to make the screw holes. I have done...

Thank you all for responding. It turns out I am looking for a #671-186x collector insulation board and it only fits a 1946 Lionel 2020 and 671 engines. The slot for the collector terminal is on one side at the edge on this part, not centered as on the 671-186 that is for the 1947 and newer engine. Send me a message if any body has one for sale. You'll get help, but more than likely its "do it yourself" help. A track powered unit would be somewhat different., but most of the cheaper ones aren't worth the cost of a repair shop, (sentimental attachment aside). Lionel had a part in producing some cheap ones, and really good ones both. #1 Does that run on batteries or powered track? That is question #1 for sure.(no link, unfamiliar loco, & can't really tell) Q.#2- Is this O gauge? Normally G belongs in the HO,N,G,Z section for best...

If it is the set pictured, it is G gauge with a IR remote, constant voltage to the track. The electronics fail and are not repairable. I have converted some of these trains to run with a conventional DC HO transformer, but the IR remote can not be used nor will it have any sounds. Any local service station should be to do this conversion if you want to save it.

Lionel 0-6-0 Dockside lighting issue

I recently purchased a used Lionel 0-6-0 Dockside loco 6-28624 which has a problem with the directional lighting. When in forward mode, the rear light is active and when in reverse mode the forward light is active. Has anyone experienced this issue and are there suggestions as to a simple fix? Thanks.

I suspect someone rolled the lamp wires on the lighting board. Here is the link to the LL website showing the board (#6 on the photo) https://www.lionelsupport.com/...d4-b233-766e50ad2664 Getting into the docksider can be interesting...take a few photos with your phone as you pull parts off, so you will know how they all go back together. It's not as bad as the old K-line 0-4-0 Porter for repairs , but can still be a handful.

I had purchased two of the first series of this locomotive (Reading) back in late 2003 or early 2004. They cost $90.00 each. It is actually a saddle tank locomotive with it's water tank wrapped around it's boiler. This little engine is very amazing as one can pull around 20 freight cars. Earlier this year one of them started to run slower and slower until it would only run in reverse. Then smoke started to come out from inside the boiler. I disassembled the locomotive and found that the...

Hello Howie the lionel 18001 Rock Island 4-8-4 "Northern" came with brass gear but the boiler casting is rough. I had one of those back in 1987. It is a poor runner if you are aware of that but can be repaired. It has the same chassis as a old 736. I am not sure of the 18009 Mohawk as I never taken one apart. Tiffany

Jim is correct, I had one of these, replaced the bushings and put spacer washers between the driven gear so that it stayed properly located. I wasn't super happy with the performance of it, but I was able to improve it enough to make the customer happy. Not one of my fun repairs, but I made it work.
