497 Coaling Station Question

Dan Padova ·
I want to run the 497 coaling station independently of track power. I know the wiring diagram for fixed voltage operation as outlined in the manual. My track power will be an MTH Z-1000. I don't want the Z-1000 track power to have anything to do with the operation of the coaling station. I will be using Williams dump cars which will dump using track power, but I want the coaling station to be powered by a separate AC power source, like an old KW. My question is this, since the track touches...

Belts on Lionel Lumber Loader 364 and Coal Loader 397

Michael Pags ·
I have been reviving several vintage Lionel operating accessories before I move from a temporary to permanent layout and have some questions on belts: For the 364 Lumber Loader, I purchased a new belt several years ago (at least 5) from a reputable parts dealer at the TCA meet in York, but did not install it until a few weeks ago. Kept the replacement belt stored in a zip lock bag. After I installed it, the logs just slipped and could not make it up the slope. I had to put small swatches of...

Coal mat for cutout

Newtrainut ·
hello, recently I saw an ad for coal mats to make coal loads for coal cars.  The mats were about the size of 8.5 x 11 and were textured and looked like coal. These Mats could be cut with scissors to make any size coal load desired. However now I am unable to find that webpage.  Has anyone seen that webpage or something similar ?   I am in O scale but I guess it could be used for most scales as it is a custom cut. Thankns !!!

FIERY Twin Bay Hopper (Suggestions Welcome)

CUSTOM "O" DECALS ·
Well, we are working on yet another specialty car. This time we are working on a twin bay hopper that in a night scene will simulate a coal fire in the top of the hopper coal load. Perhaps in subsequent hoppers we will add smoke but not initially.       Everyone's thoughts are welcome as to this project. Dave, LBR

Re: New video! MTH Premier N&W 611 Coal Train

Mark Boyce ·
Very nice video, Adam! I'm with you on having the 611 pull a coal train occasionally. The large mirror makes a nice effect. I didn't realize it was there at first, and it looked like steam was coming out of the far side of the 611. Then I realized it was a mirror image. Thanks!

Adam, I agree - great job on the video. I like how you have various art works and tin signs displayed on the walls. I have that same model of the 611, and it's one of my favorites.

Hi Adam / I try to watch all your YT Videos and this one is well done, just like all of them. Steam power is one of my favorite topics. The 611 is a fine example of steam power and MTH did an excellent job with this loco. Looks and sounds great on your layout. In a first class train room.

Great video as always, Adam.......I have the 607 set and love it! BTW, I only realized that the J was a passenger engine about 10 years ago. Before that, I was biased by row Lionel catalogs of 57-59....it was a freight engine! Thanks again, Adam. Peter

Thanks for all the comments now on to answering questions! 1. This is the Premier Line model of 611 which was in MTH 2015 Volumes 1 and 2. 2. People don't always notice the mirror at first but when they do they are amazed! 3. I agree OGR needs to make some new layout videos featuring GoPro rides! If you need any help with that project OGR I think you know where to find me. I do have a degree in video production after all! I'll be producing one more video this week featuring my MTH Premier...

Here's a few quick shots of where the yard approach splits off from GB tower interlocking. I have been trying to do some of the rough scenery here, just trees, rocks, and ballast mostly. I also put together some 68kV power lines, using the article in the last OGR for inspiration. I also relocated that tool shed from its previous spot by Bryant tunnel.

Elliott, You might want to look at push/pull rods that the R/C community uses in their model planes. http://www.sullivanproducts.com/GoldnRodMainFrame.htm This is the solid music wire style. By fixing the end of the outer casing the control wire moves crisply. Jan
