A tale of two SW9s with problems

pittsburghrailfan ·
I may or may not have posted about this before. My local club has a pair of MTH PS2 Montour SW9s, product 30-2327-1. A while back, both engine started operating erratically. One of the two has sounds and lights, but does not respond to a DCS track signal or get found by the remote. Sometimes, when it is placed on a track, the sound and lights turn on, other times it remains dark. The other SW9, after running on my home layout for a bit, lost sound totally, no emissions whatsoever. The...

MTH PRR LS25, mild 3RSing of

Norm Charbonneau ·
I had wanted one of these for a long time when one finally popped up for sale here on OGR. I always thought it would make a good fixed pilot/Kadee model. Here is a shot of it sitting in town: I would share some video of its test run but I managed to launch all of its traction tires. I started the fixed pilot conversion by cutting the truck mounts off: I then devised a way to mount them to the frame, mostly to align it with the shell: This setup allows access to the fore/aft shell screws. Something I'd like to see

Dan Padova ·
I love electric locomotives. Some guys like steam, others diesel. I have always been fascinated by electrics however. LGB electric locos ( eloks ) have a selector switch that allows for quick and easy conversion to allow the loco to take power through the pantograph. I'd like to see O scale manufacturers do the same.

In 1940, the Pennsylvania Railroad, pleased with both the General Electric 44 ton centercab switcher and the center cab P5A locomotive, decided to order a heavier center cab road switcher. A few of you may remember that in 2016 I posted a topic documenting the travails I was undertaking to have a D.A.R.E. Model Railroad Club SW1500 repaired. Eventually, I concluded that the only way the engine was going to be repaired was if it was sent back to MTH. MTH replaced the driver board that had rendered the engine inoperable. Below is a video of the engine's first extended run since 2014. The club and I are eternally grateful to MTH for repairing this engine for us.

I have an MTH Premier Grand Trunk Western GP9 diesel-electric locomotive model that was stalling at slow speeds over the switches on my Atlas O tracks.
