A "Grander" Central Station

Mike Wyatt ·
I kit-bashed two Plasticville Union Stations into one long one, cut the result lengthwise, and mounted the Plasticville section to the back of a Lionel Grand Central Station - notably plain, and (dare I say) ugly. The Plasticville building(s) are mounted to a painted styrene piece that covers the back of the Lionel Station, and the styrene is attached using doublefaced tape. So the "collectible" is not ruined. Then, I glued a printed station interior to the styrene background, and lit the...

NEW PRODUCT OFFERING!!! Rooftop Billboard Building Signs

We have produced a line of Rooftop Billboard Business Signs (RBBS) as accessories to our warehouse shadowboxes. They are nominally ½” deep and are made up of a combination of a sign-specific laser cut frame, laser cut bents, styrene strip and laser cut letters. Hello again, I have been approached to buy an unbuilt CLW FA-1 / FB-1 set of Brass Section 1/2 Kits that are missing both the printed Instructions and parts lists. K-Line Hudson Upgrades

Hiya! I was considering purchasing a K-line New York Central Hudson (K3270-5343S) and I was wondering a few things... 1. Can I install ERR cruise in it? 2. Is there a way to replace the Railsounds board with one from another later TMCC locomotive (New York Central 2-8-2 Mikado JR, w/TMCC (6-38609). I just really think that the sounds from this locomotive would compliment the hudson beautifully. 3. How would one install a super chuffer, so that I can have 4 chuffs per revolution, and fan...

I have seen this question and others like it here more than once over the years. There is sometimes a misunderstanding about how the US (and other) rail systems work. All railroads (except some industrial roads, and the like) are interconnected. They do what is called "interchange". Behind your ICG (or any road) locomotives you could find, actually, any railroad in the US (and Mexico and Canada) that interchanges with other roads. Essentially, all roads could show up - and did. Certainly...

The only ones I know of are the Lionel No. 9153. Easy to find on the Bay. They're models of a common steam era 8000 gal. tank car. They would have run into the early diesel era as well, I'd think.

I think K-Line made a Amoco tank car like the Chevron above. I repainted a K-Line tank car to Amoco years ago. The Amoco tank car will have AMOX plus the car number. I also have a Amoco Chemical covered hopper car for plastics made by Weaver. Also a Amoco tank farm and a oil well and gas well. Can not find pictures of the tank car or Hopper car. Worked 30 years for Amoco/BP, they paid for all of my trains.

T8AFAO, I also pedeled out to the L&N Shops. The 2 Roundhouses are part of the U of L Campus now. They had a "slip track", that they would use to "run in engines", make timing adjustments. Mr. Hollenseed the "Master Mechanic", who was on my neighborhood paper route told me, that was what it was used for! My trips around the different rail yards and shops/roundhouses in the Louisville Area, I never ever saw another one. I always wondered how the others did their adjustments? Run along ...

John, they came up from Western, Ky on their own line! The passenger trains went to old 7th street/Central Station, which the passenger trains split the Oak Street Yard, due north to the station. They also moved a tremendous amount of troop cars from Louisville South to FT.Knox Ky, and North from Memphis, Tenn to Ft. Knox. This was done Viet Nam > Korea, WW2/WW1. Poor old I.C. didn't get a lot of press back in the day, as L&N's home office was next door, to the Union Station in...

Many thanks for all of the ideas and stories! One follow-up: I know a little bit about the REA and how it was co-owned by a consortium of railroads. Does anyone know if the IC was one of those owners and, if so, would it have been prototypical for it to pull REA cargo?

Check the traction tires. All the F3/F7's (two sets I bought) had the wrong traction tires and they bound up on the wheel brake bracket and they would not run but wanted to. You can cut the ones binding off to make sure it runs. Lionel will send you new traction tires to fix. Pretty easy to fix yourself or Lionel will fix it for you. Joe

I have packed it up. I do remember seeing one of the traction tires kind of binding up while it was trying to move. I will unpack and see if I can see what is happening. Before I packed it up i had turned it over and used leads to power it. It still had a really tuff time to get it to spin but did eventually. Put it on the track and it just derailed itself trying to move. Joe Do you remember if the second set that was included was also wrong? Thanks Bob

If it turns out to be the traction tires I would loose the Lionel tires as they are usually thicker and get some new tires from MTH. No sense in putting the same traction tire back on if that's what causing the problem.

Thanks everyone. Was just reading manual online to see how to change traction tires and read about error code indicated by flashing cabin light. The cabin light was flashing while I was trying to get it to work. The Non powered A unit was smoking and the powered A was not. While I was trouble shooting I turned off the smoke switch on the powered A. Guess I will have to dig it out and see what else is going on with it. Bob
