#60 Lionel Trolly

Paul Lansing ·
I know this seems to be a simple question but it's got me stumped. How does the Trolley Pole attach to the "pole mounting clip??" Try as I may, I can't figure out how these two mount on top of the shaft and pinion thru the hole in the top of the trolley roof?? I'm a pretty god mechanic and have been repairing all sorts of trains and accessories for years! I'm looking at Greenberg's pictorial and can't figure it out?? Help! Paul

700E Hudsons - Difference between the 1930's, 1990's and Vision Line models

Phoebe Snow Route ·
I’m interesting in purchasing a Lionel 1-700E (6-18005) and wanted to know some things about it before I do so. First - I wanted to know how true of a reproduction is it from the original 30’s model. I know that the 1-700E has Railsounds 1 and a smoke unit, but other than that, how does it compare? Second – It’s been more than 25 years since it was produced so. Does it run like a Lionel product from the 90’s or is it a little more refined? Third – Maintenance. Is it maintained (oil/lube) any...

Alternative to Lionel O22 Switch Controller?

Mike H Mottler ·
I'm now designing and intend to build a home layout based on Lionel O-gauge tubular track and fourteen O22 RC switches. I already have the O22 switches, but I have only a few Lionel O22 switch controllers. Is there a Radio Shack (or other vendor) item that could be panel-mounted on a control panel; perhaps a DPDT momentary contact rocker switch with three positions for control of each Lionel O22 switch on the layout (upper ON, center OFF, and lower ON) with available terminals for connecting...

Best Birthday Ever!

M. Mitchell Marmel ·
Yesterday was my birthday. It was also the monthly meeting of the Sugar Creek Model Railroad Club. And someone donated what could be called a metric (poop)load of postwar and prewar Lionels in, well, let's be charitable and say 'well loved' condition. After a bit of haggling (and a modest donation to the club), the Razorback Traction Company's Home For Wayward Lionels has added this: After a bit of cleaning and tweaking, this 2032 consist was growling pleasantly along my layout last night:...

Conversation with Lionel York

I had an extended and interesting conversation with Lionel at York on Saturday. Having a background in economics and advertising some things became clear to me. If the economy of the country doesn't tank in the next year, Lionel will be doing some very interesting things including our favorite "s" gauge/scale. I was very impressed by knowledgeable staff (they are all different folks than the ones I used to know) they were open, knew the product, the market and wanted to hear what the...

Control Panel for floor layout.

Anyone ever make one for a floor layout? I put the one in the picture together to hold my Lionel Z and the 440C and 439 control Panels. The top lifts up so I can hide terminal strips and whatever else I need to and keep it somewhat neat. I haven't wired it yet, just running the trains with it but it keeps everything together and looks good. If anyone else had made anything similar could you please post pictures?    Thanks     Pete

1999 Vintage Lionel ZW transformer problem

bimmer050 ·
Hi Everyone, I own a 1999 Lionel ZW transformer with 2-135 Watt power bricks. The problem that just developed this month is the A-U terminals do not go to zero when I close the throttle. I measure 5.3VAC at the track when it should be zero. Any locomotive or lighted rolling stock still has their lights on when they should be OFF. The B-U, C-U and D-U terminals go to zero like they should. Is there a repair procedure available to open up the control unit to adjust for proper voltage? Or has...

Reduced - 1947 Lionel 726 Berkshire & 2426W Tender w/ Box

sud148 ·
I purchased this on a business trip in 2013 at a small store in Colorado. The front boiler plate looks to have been replaced, but the rest appears correct and original. The grease hardened in the gear box so I disassembled, cleaned and applied red 'n tacky grease. The motor was missing a few ball bearings so I replenished them as well. The smoke unit was upgraded for liquid usage. There is a chip out of the one tender step, and the box is missing the flap not pictured. I ran this at...

3D Printing for mainstream producers?

pittsburghrailfan ·
I had an idea the other night. Many O scalers and O gaugers are always complaining (especially with a new catalog release) about how the big 2 (Lionel/MTH) aren't always prototypically accurate on the smaller details of their models (e.g. the E-L #1700 SD45, which is actually an SD45-2). What is MTH or Lionel created a web-based portal where hobbyists could create CAD models of their desired engines with prototypically accurate details, then had MTH 3D print the shells in plastic or metal?

Anyone ever kitbash a Lionel 0-6-0 Docksider?

Management here at the PRND&L Railroad have been engaged in some significant discussions regarding our steam motive power. Since the PRND&L is a small railroad, we run mostly Lionel “Scout” and Marx “Delux” (also K-Line) sized rolling stock. That also means small-sized motive power that won’t look too out of place. Regarding our steam roster, the best performers we have are Lionel’s 0-6-0 “Dockside” switchers. They seem to run at a more steady speed on the level and through the ups...
