Re: Anybody know a source for Lionel's Baby Madison passenger car interiors?

breezinup ·
The most recent versions of the Baby Madisons have interiors and clear windows. You might check on line at the Lionel site for parts for recent Madisons, and see if they're available. Good idea to check with the Train Doctor at Brasseur's, too, if that doesn't work.

I wonder if it wouldn't be cheaper to buy the new cars and just sell the old ones? I'm guessing that buying significant parts like that will get expensive.

Re: Anybody know a source for Lionel's Baby Madison passenger car interiors?

breezinup ·
Taking a quick look at the Lionel parts site, it doesn't look like interiors are available for the Baby Madisons. Actually, it seems like many of the parts for these cars are unavailable, although the clear window strip parts are showing. Looks like the only option may in line with gunrunnerjohn's comment - have to buy new cars to get the parts.

I'll guess 2 possibilities. First... that its RR specific nomenclature, the same way UP calls them C45ACCTE. Whats the roadname? You may want to google it, and the specific road number and see if you can find a good photo online (railpictures.net, etc....) Second... It was my understanding that the MTH model is of an early version of the evolution series (to date, I think there are 4 iterations), and it would make sense that GE called it an ES4400CW at first, as follows the GE naming...

Re: MTH ES44AC vs Lionel ES44AC

Rich Montague ·
I generally agree with the post above. It's even possible both are correct for the same roadname because individual railroads sometimes change their own nomenclature over time. The MTH version of this model in BNSF is stenciled "AC4400CW' and that's correct because that's what BNSF designated them when first delivered (even though to GE that is the designation of a predecessor model in its catalogue). If I recall correctly, BNSF later changed to GE's nomenclature and called them "ES44ACs."...

I took mine apart when I got it to see if they had forgot to screw it in place. I did not find anything inside. It appears to have been taken out to save cost. It would be a bit redundant anyway since you can turn off the sound using the volume control screw.

Can you turn the sound all the way off with the volume knob? If you turn off the sound with the volume screw, do the whistle and horn still sound?

All sounds are changed with the screw. All the way down there are no sounds.

Re: New RTR Lionel Santa Fe Chief missing sound switch

That was my fear. I want to be able to use the horn and bell. The switch is supposed to do that. From the manual: Use the volume control knob on the underside of the locomotive to adjust the volume. Refer to Figure 9. Slide the Sound switch to the NOSND position to silence the diesel road. The user-activated horn and bell are not silenced.

Re: New RTR Lionel Santa Fe Chief missing sound switch

I have a Lionel Whistle steam Berk with RTR rail sounds and you can only adjust sound via a knob and no switch is present. I had the older train sounds version and that had a switch and volume knob. I'm guessing the rail sounds is the same because it requires a short blast of the whistle for crew talk and is a pretty recent model. Hope this helps and happy holidays

I hope someone is still monitoring this thread. I just got a new Santa Fe F3 set today. There weren't any instructions in the box. I see no sound switch (place for one though). I don't see the volume control either. Is there a hole somewhere for screwdriver adjustment of volume? I'd like to up the diesel sounds. Thank you! I looked in some old instructions for another train and figured it out! Yahooo! Thanks anyway!!!!!

Re: New RTR Lionel Santa Fe Chief missing sound switch

the ability to turn off the rail sounds and still use the horn/bell is no longer. it's all or nothing. the hole for the switch is just a remnant of a time when you had more options. Inside the new sound board does everything so you can't fix this issue without replacing with some other board. it's a shame because the constant sound is too much to bear but the kids miss using the horn/bell whenever they want. luckily I have plenty of williams locos for them to play with.

Smoke unit issue

Jack118711 ·
Hello! I bought this diesel awhile ago and the smoke unit never worked but the seller refunded me half the cost so I’ve never thought much about it. But now it’s bugging me. It’s an old Lionel TMCC BNSF Dash-9 6-18253 and it’s in great shape minus the smoke unit. I run off a conventional transformer so maybe that’s the issue? My MTH diesels smoke fine but maybe TMCC needs more voltage? I’ve replaced the wicking in the unit and cleaned it up well and even had it sit on the track for awhile...

Lionel Nickle Plate Road 587 (6-84532) Quality Control Issues

AmtrakNickFilms ·
@Dave_Olson @Conrail6358 My Lionel Nickle Plate Road 587 (6-84532) is having quality control issues. The issue is that when I blow the whistle the whistle steam effect is mainly emitting water droplets of smoke fluid and not very much whistle steam. I have not been overfilling this engine at all and I only received it last night. If anyone from Lionel or anyone on the ogrforum knows the solution please let me know. I will post a video of what is happening later Thanks!

There's reasons that the only locos I loan out unsupervised are ones I consider expendable. Here's one: These locos don't take well to falling three feet to a concrete floor. Here's another: The drawbar pins on these locos are grounded, so that an additional ground can be had from the tender. Given the plastic frames on these things, this is a necessity. 'Course, if the drawbar pin is shorted out on the track and nobody pays attention, well... Plus the motor was knocked loose... The rear...

MTH SW1500 riding up on Lionel switches

pittsburghrailfan ·
The local club I belong to recently added another extension to its O gauge layout. Because of material constraints, we were forced to use old Lionel tinplate/tubular O-72 switches to create sidings and spurs. When I attempted to run our 30- 2749-1 SW1500 across these switches lined in the straight direction, the locomotive's truck appears to ride up on the frog; it gets stuck about when the front truck crosses the frog. Are there any solutions to this issue? If videos or pictures are needed,...

I have adjusted the slide switches but this does not change. Each time I use either the button on the transformer or the throttle lever, the engine runs in forward...

Train Master Diesel

I'm looking at several Lionel Train Masters. Some are post-war, some are MPC around 1979 and the rest are later productions made in the '80s or later. Post-war is desirable but sometimes a bit pricey. The MPC versions are simple and probably can be upgraded with a horn. The later models have different characteristics. Some have horns, electronic E-units. Most have mane-traction which is a must. Several examples are listed on the Bay that are remakes coming in the familiar orange box. These...
