Controlling the AMC/ARC Gantry Crane in the LCS App

I have set up the Wifi and downloaded the app from the App store. Some questions: 1, Works fine when I use the MTH router, but does not see my home wifi. It is switched from MTH to home, but I get a "can't locate TIU"message and something about making sure the address on the iPad is the same as the home router (it is). ??? 2, I wanted to change the name of an engine, went edit, created the new name and hit saved.  Response said something like no change made.  3,   I...

Re: MTH WiFi Trolley Mode?

PatapscoValleyRR ·
I tried the WIFI APP running my PCC trolley. It does not have the soft keys used to program the trolley (learn mode), manually fire off the trolley or the auto mode. Perhaps the full versions of the app which would do lash-ups, switching, and accessories will have this feature.

You're welcome. As to why the light started blinking, I can only say that there must be some circuitry in the cable that communicates. When I plug the cable into my computers, even though nothing is connected to the serial end, the computer gives the "USB recognized" double chirp.

Are you sure the USB>serial cable works? Can you use it to connect a PC with the TIU? I have used the wifi with an ancient Rev G TIU and it worked flawlessly.

The cable is brand new. I have a lap top that I connected to the TIU with it but there is no indication that the lap top is seeing it. I'm curious as to why the purple light in the WiFi unit starts blinking as soon as the USB connector is inserted.

Have you downloaded the full wifi manual from the MTH web site? I strongly recommend that you do so. There you shall find: For Routers with WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) 1. Attach the antenna to the WIU. 2. Set the MTH/HOME selector switch to HOME. 3. Conned the WIU to your TIU with a USB cable (included*). 4. Apply track power through the TIU. 5. Plug the WIU into an AC wall outlet. 6. Wait 1 minute for the WIU to initialize. When ready, the PWR, WI-FI, and TIU LEDS will be lit. 7. Press the...

Re: Maximum Remote Control via WiFi

PatapscoValleyRR ·
After reading Barry's latest DCS book, I added 2 TIU/WIU and LCS to my home network. I often run the DCS APP and LCS iCab app on my iPhone at the same time. It is easy to switch between the app. Sometime, the Lionel iCab app requires me to reconnect after switching back to it, but this occurs quickly. Sometimes I had to read again on the DCS app. Since updating the DCS WIU to the latest firmware, I have not had that issue. I use an iPad running the yard on LCS app to control my switches, but...

Re: Syncing the Devices via DCS Wifi

Barry Broskowitz ·
t works the same way as if you controlled an engine with two DCS Remotes. The engine will respond to commands from both, however, the apps won't be aware of each other's commands. For example, if you change an engine's speed with one app, the engine's speed will change, however, the second app's display won' t change to reflect the change in speed.

Ok, good to know! Maybe you could put a word in at MTH Barry so that in the future it might be possible for the trains to sync across devices. If I device make a change to a train on one device, it would carry over and be displayed another! Just a thought!

Landon, That's a tough one. I suspect that, if it was easy to do, MTH would have done it with the remote years ago.

Wifi App Issues / Question

I set up a test track just to play around with the app, and couldn't get the engine to load. I tried on my google tablet and iPhone 6, it shows no inactive engines (since this is the first time I'm using its expected) but when I go to add engines it says refreshing for a few seconds and then nothing. Has there been a fix for...

WiFi App Z4K track control

H1000 ·
I am curious as to how the the WIU will control my Z4000 & Remote Commander receiver (40-4001). It looks like track control will be included with the premium app but I think there is a small communication barrier with the remote commander receiver. Some one please correct me if I am wrong, but the DCS remote communicates to the TIU and the remote commander receiver independently using a 900MHz frequency. This would mean the WIU nor DCS app has anyway to control a Z4K remote...

Next generation MTH DCS WIFI APP and/or a third party DCS WIFI APP? For those who already have the MTH DCS system the TIU/AIU hardware along with the new WIFI system it seems to now be a straightforward way to control a model railroad system. Although the full featured MTH WIFI APP is not yet developed my guess is that other third party apps may also be developed to provide more complex control functionality via WIFI. What is needed is a DCS interface that would send signals from...

Maybe Jon or Rudy could jump in and shed some light on this. I don't have the gantry crane but if it's like the log loader you loose the fine control of the motors using the app. It's much better using the Cab2.

Sorry to hijack this thread but I just picked up a used amc/arc gantry crane and everything seems to work fine but I noticed as soon as I plug in the power to the controller, the controller and crane both have an electric hum. My old conventional crane didn't do this so I was wondering if this is normal? When I say it has a hum, it hums when sitting idle and the hum only goes away if I completely turn off the transformer.

Sorry MTH setting. Took another look at it today in the tablet (new to this) when I try to sign into the DCS Wifi it would say connecting then disconnecting. I found that I had to first on the tablet check out of the home wi fi network then resign in to the MTH network. Now it allows me to toggle back and forth easily between networks. Looking forward to the full versions of the Wi Fi DCS app. This is a great way to run trains. Makes it easier to see the list of engines then on the DCS remotes.
