Railroading in America Magazine is Working on Something Special!

Evan Cihlar ·
Hi everyone! Since Railroading in America Magazine (RIAM) partnered with OGR , we've been getting a lot of questions regarding ordering Editions 1-3. Currently, the RIAM store only offers Editions 4-7. The reason for that is because before we were "Railroading in America Magazine" the company's name was "C-Lines Railway and Productions." The magazine changed names after Edition 3 to a more professional-sounding name, and along with the professional name came professional design. What RIAM...

Re: This is my starting point. What is yours?

Mark Boyce ·
Gary, I always first leaf through the magazine from front to back cover, then start reading from front to back in order. It is a rare occasion that I will skip to a certain article or column, usually only when I am acquainted with the author. There is a name for people like me. LOL

Usually front to back, unless something else catches my interest from the cover or TOC. I sometimes skip through the whole magazine first. Usually read every article. I also like the print copy.

Discover magazine and RR

rrman ·
Just received my July/August Discover magazine that had an article "Doctors Derailed". Here is a statistic: one in every 28 employees were injured on the RR and one in 399 died. It discuses how doctors learned to treat injuries that regularly occurred on the railroads (fingers, limbs, concussions, ruptured internal organs, etc). From this evolved rudimentary first aid packs with dressings and medicines (such as they were in early 1800s). Eventually RRs began opening private hospitals to...

Magazine Subscription Prices !!

Dan Padova ·
So why is it that Classic Toy Trains charges almost $40.00 for a year's subscription, while most magazines on the market are going for pennies in comparison. This Old House magazine, for example, is only $10.00 for a year's subscription. My wife gets Time for next to nothing. Inquiring minds want to know.

Comments on Latest OGR Magazine Issue

Arnold D. Cribari ·
It just occurred to me, thumbing through the October/November issue of OGR, seeing the numerous stunning photos, that the Forum could include in its directory the above subject. If Forum members commit to keeping all their comments positive, and I can assure you that I will, this idea could provide many testimonials which could be great for promoting both OGR Magazine and its On-Line Forum. What do you think? Arnold

Your OGR Magazines

Arnold D. Cribari ·
Who among us saves their OGR Magazines? And, if so, why have you done so? I will start by saying I have for approximately 30 years. Initially, I did because I liked the pictures of the beautiful layouts, and reading old issues is a nice, relaxing, thing thing to do after a hard day at work, or when I'm about to go to sleep. I have several other reasons for saving them, but I will hold back for a while to give you folks a chance to chime in. Arnold

Maybe a better worded new subject in the OGR On-Line Forum Directory would be: Testimonials About the OGR Magazine and On-Line Forum. What do you think? Arnold

Correction: maybe what I'm proposing is a title for a new Forum to be put in the Directory, and that new title would simply be: Testimonials. Arnold

The music is irritating, but at least it wasn't the obligatory harmonica and banjo, signifying the "antique" nature of steam engines, and trains, in general.
