On the Bluetooth equipped locomotives, there is a setting on the APP that changes momentum. Three settings are available. I'm not sure if I am using it correctly. As I try each of the three settings, I really cannot see a decreeable difference in the way the loco accelerates or decelerates. Anyone here familiar with the APP ?
Dan, The L or low is the default for momentum control...if you want a slower start or response, then the M is for medium control and the H or high gives the more prototypical response action for starting and stopping. It does work on my app and iPhone, so pretty sure it will on yours too.
I did the deed last night and an toggled between the different momentum settings. I did notice a difference between the low and high settings that I hadn't been able to see before. If you reduce speed quickly, the locomotive will come to a stop more slowly when the momentum is set on high. I tried this with the A5. Next I will experiment with the GP-7.
What gets me is It happens right out of the Box I have a friend that bought the lion chief polar express the smoke work perfectly for about 30 to 45 seconds and then totally quit. Said he would never buy another lion chief engine again Joe Gozzo
I bought a James Lion Chief set for our Grandson a year ago for Christmas, was only set up this past Christmas and now he stalls and won't run unless you push down on him or squeeze his boiler slightly. Contacts seem fine, opened him up and wires all seem fine thinking it might be the board? Anyone have any experience with this engine and this problem?
Has anyone used the Lion Chief guts as a donor to upgrade some other engine? I have upgraded some Williams engines with MTH PS2 donor engine swaps and wanted to know if anyone attempted this in the Lion Chief world. Thanks! Ron
Howdy, I was given a Lion Chief Pennsylvania Flyer locomotive that does not respond to the remote. I have checked to see that it is the correct remote and it has the right name and number. The batteries are new. When the locomotive is placed on the track and voltage is applied it makes what I call the typical idle clang banging sounds. Turn on the remote and the red LED is steady at the zero position. Turn the knob either CW or CCW and the LED flashes but nothing else happens. No whistle or...
Hi I have a Lion Chief Hudson Cab #5421 Runs forward & rev, Has lights. No smoke or sound. I changed the pcb board same results It seems I'm not getting power to smoke unit or sound Has anyone had a similar problem? I would appreciate your input. Thanks jimmyt
I’ve done it. I took the guts of a Lionel dinosaur diesel switcher and put it in one of Lionel’s 4-4-2 Atlantic - engine used to be shipped with starter sets in the 1980’s. No features were used, just wanted to see if it would work - it did. I then took the guts from another Dino switcher and put that in an inexpensive RS3 that Lionel used to sell. Worked great as well. However the speaker used in the Dino switcher is small and isn’t very loud. IMO audible but barely. Steve
Lion Chief Plus seems to be the control system of the future for all but the most serious enthusiasts. We have 15 TMCC locos, 6 traditional (conventional E_Unit) locos ans 2 Lion Chief Plus locos. I wand to convert our remaining conventional locos to Lion Chief Plus, not TMCC. Who manufactures the boards for Lion Chief Plus and can I buy a Lion Chief Plus conversion boards like I can for TMCC from ERR?
Just got a good question from my son-in-law regarding the storage of the Lion Chief Polar Express set we gave our grandson for Christmas. Can it be stored in the attic (they live in a townhouse in Eldersburg MD to give you an idea of the climate)? I started to say "yes", but realized I only stored postwar in attics in the past (now none of it is in the attic at my house!). Thanks for your help!
I have a couple of Lion Chief remotes acting like the batteries are not strong enough ( even though they are new ) One is a Lion Chief Plus GP-7 and the other is from the Frosty set that I just opened today. Both turn on and LEDs on both blink rapidly with no response from engines. Any suggestions?
No one is currently making LC+ boards for upgrade and I suspect if it happens it will be a wait. I suspect many will argue your first statement as well. Too many choices right now and really no clear "choice of systems" for most hobbyist I know. Everyone is all over the place.
Talked to the Lionel service folks via e-mail and then said to get a new remote. I can understand this as you have to know something is working and I didn't know that. With the return policy it isn't like you are going to be out all the money. The mailing back is a hassle but I needed to get this resolved. So I ordered a new remote and it solved the problem. So I'm a happy hobo camper along the main line. Train ON
Guys, I get to see many of these engines from Charles Ro. When they run, they run good. I am a big fan of the universal remote. Cheap money, upgradable, and works perfect. A good tool to have if you have more than one locomotive.
I just purchased a new lionchief plus hudson and I am having a similar problem when power is turned on to the track I get the beep from the engine and if i am less than 3 feet away from the engine nothing happens, If I am 6 or 7 feet away it works although intermitent.
These engines use a single electronic control board. they control sound, radio etc.. most likely this board is damaged. You can purchase replacement boards from lionel for around $45.00. These engines are very easy to repair. 4 screws hold on the body and the board is held in a slot. Just unplug and replace. Michael.
Those have to be the best decals I have seen! Sure hope you can find a maker for them and I wish you good luck. I don't recall exactly , but I think forum member AMCDave may have done a tutorial on how he makes decals. If not a tutorial I believe he described the process pretty well. I son'e remember the thread or exactly when I read it though, sorry. I will look around and if I find it I will add a link for you here. I really know nothing about the decal end of things. Here's one link, but...
I'm in the process of making some for my Republic Steel locos I have never made decals before let you know what happens if it's a success. The decal paper supposed to arrive today by Australian Post won't hold my breath but keep my fingers crossed! Roo.
Everything was going good until you said the word white. You'll need an alps printer to print white lettering. If you could stay away from white you could easily print what you want with a standard printer on water slide decal paper. Decal paper comes in clear or white. I prefer using white decal paper with a block boarder to make it clean looking.
I'm working on some custom decals for the Giraffe Express, and even got a friend of mine to design a mascot inspired by the old Lionel Lion: Any suggestions where I can get these printed up? Ron Roberts of Rail Graphics has already demurred, saying the design's too complex for his equipment... Thanks! Mitch
The LC+ would be a bit trickier as it has the speed control tach on the motor and the "Legacy-like" toothed encoder wheel on the flywheel. That also triggers the chuffs, and the locomotive won't run without it. Other than that, it should be fairly simple to transplant the electronics.
