TCA Atlantic Division K Line boxcar help

turtle7 ·
I have a K Line boxcar painted over a regular K Line car #6449 (K Line 20th Anniversary-Atlantic Division TCA-1990). It is yellow on the sides with red doors/top and ends. To the left of the door is a Union Pacific type shield with "The Collectors Main Line-Atlantic Division" all within the shield and on the right is "1991 Members Meet Westover C.C." all that lettering appears to be rubber stamped. The box is a correct 6449 box with "1991 Members Meet Westover C.C," stamped over the 6449. The newsletter archive only goes back to 1998 . They have no contact us on their website. I have observed that in the late '80's to the early '90's there was a small market for custom painted sets and cars from a manufacturer. Many organizations still have event cars made to commemorate special events. The "who did the work" and "how many" would have to come from a member. You can truly say it's a rare car because they were never produced in thousands. Perhaps the TCA Museum in PA could help.

MTH New Jersey Transit P40s - New & Custom Run!

M J Breen ·
Well Today I picked up the custom run MTH NJ Transit P40s from Nicholas Smith trains and I wanted to share some photos and videos with you all. I enjoy that NST, Pat's, Stockyard express and others and getting MTH to offer custom products as some really unique items are being produced! Background: NJ transit leased 4 P40s (NJT numbers 4800-4803) from Amtrak to pull the new ACES (Atlantic City Express Service) from New York Penn Station to Atlantic City - not to be confused with the current...

Re: What battery for Railsounds Lionel scale Atlantic

prrhorseshoecurve ·
Do yourself a favor and go-to Hennings trains. Get the Gunrunner John's ylb (your last battery) it's a self charging circuit board designed for Railsounds. It doesn't leak or do any damage to the Electronics. You can consider it a BCR for Railsounds Locomotives.

If you want a battery to prevent sound dropouts when you cross over switches and the like, one option is this one. It's a battery that you'll never have to replace and you don't have to worry about it ever leaking either. YLB - RailSounds Battery Replacement

What battery for Railsounds Lionel scale Atlantic

Griff Murphey ·
I bought an older (15-20 yrs) Pennsy 4-4-2 the guy had converted it to command control and warned me to install a battery to make the Railsounds work. Should I just put in a real good quality regular battery - which is what I think - (leakproof if possible) or does it need a rechargeable one? I think the firmer but I just wanted to check. The engine was sold to me for the grand sum of $85. It was damaged and my ATSF one needed the remaining good eccentric crank and rocker arm. Heck of a...

Re: What battery for Railsounds Lionel scale Atlantic

D500 ·
I am not familiar with needing a battery to make Lionel Railsounds work. None of my Lionel TMCC Railsound locomotives (I have a lot - factory installed and ERR upgraded - by me) have a battery. When I find one in a used loco, I remove it. In conventional control, I understand, the battery will keep the sounds working (that is, no brief interruption) during the F-N-R direction cycle, but I don't run things in conventional. There should be no need for one in command control (the track voltage...

Steam Whistle for a Lionel 4-4-2 Atlantic Legacy (Pennsy)

Bob Herr ·
I'm Looking for the Whistle that goes on the 4-4-2 Atlantic. The locomotive came out in the 2010 catalog. It's not available through lionel and doesn't seem to be on ebay. Does anyone know where I might find one to purchase. Locomotive number is 6-11224 also could be 6-11225. Any help Thanks

FWIW, Lionel is re-releasing these in the past catalog so the part may become available again if you don't have luck. Also sometimes a phone call, if you haven't tried already, rather than the on-line parts might be more productive.

Re: New Legacy E6 Atlantic

gunrunnerjohn ·
Railsound/Signal Sounds switch. This is simply a way to turn off the background sounds like chuff, etc. if you don't want them. This capability has been around since the early RailSounds days. If the switch isn't there, which is what you describe, it's probably an old mold for the tender and they didn't remove the old switch position.

Re: New Legacy E6 Atlantic

pennsy484 ·
The manual is obviously incorrect and uses the language regarding the cylinder steam effect. You need to add fluid under the whistle or you are going to burn up the wick in the whistle steam smoke unit.
Reply

Re: New Legacy E6 Atlantic

MartyE ·
There is no steam chest effect on this engine. Legacy engines (non visionline) have either whistle smoke or steam chest smoke but never both as of today. Previous runs of this engine suggest that the whistle comes off to fill the whistle steam smoke unit. I'm not sure if they have changed this but your manual seems to indicate that it was changed. I looked for a parts list and it's not available. This maybe a question directly for Lionel. Just for reference from the Lindberg version...

Re: New Legacy E6 Atlantic

I kind of figured that. I was just pointing out that it was listed each way in different places and with what it actually came with.

Re: New Legacy E6 Atlantic

MartyE ·
I have to agree with Jeff. The Cylinder steam effect came from the same bowl as the whistle steam on those equipped locomotives. This unit always had the separate smoke unit and I don't see that Lionel would have changed it.

So just to clarify - does the fluid go into Hole 1 or hole 2 ?

Re: New Legacy E6 Atlantic

gunrunnerjohn ·
If you're still getting "steam chest steam", I'd recommend you get it fixed, it's probably a bad match between the stack and the smoke unit!

Re: New Legacy E6 Atlantic

gunrunnerjohn ·
I would hope they added the extra background sounds like other newer Legacy locomotives have. The last Legacy ones were still using the old Modular RS boards, in the case of the Lindbergh Atlantic, RS 6.0.

Re: New Legacy E6 Atlantic

gunrunnerjohn ·
No surprise, there's a 90 degree bend right below the fill hole. That is indeed where the fluid goes.
Reply

Re: New Legacy E6 Atlantic

gunrunnerjohn ·
The fluid goes into the hole you took the whistle out of, it's the reason for having it removable. It looks just like the earlier Legacy E6 Atlantic, that's where I always put the fluid.

Yes, 2 on your drawing. With that smoke unit its an especially unfortunate mishap with the instruction manual not providing instructions!

Re: New Legacy E6 Atlantic

I was hoping they changed the design of the new Legacy Atlantic. I had the earlier Lindbergh Atlantic with whistle smoke, and it was PACKED inside! Once you took the boiler shell off, it was a nightmare getting everything aligned to get it back on, wires are EVERYWHERE! I would like another Atlantic, but I'm reluctant to buy it if it's packed like the older Legacy model.

Re: New Legacy E6 Atlantic

I don't know if the manual is correct or not. What I can tell you is that I only added smoke fluid down the stack and the whistle steam worked.

Re: New Legacy E6 Atlantic

gunrunnerjohn ·
Dave, probably there isn't a switch, I don't see them on the later Legacy stuff. I think as I stated, this is just an old mold for the tender and it was easier just to leave the switch out. That switch seems to have disappeared on most of my later Legacy locomotives, around the 2011-2012 timeframe. I think that's around the time they dropped the old modular sound form-factor and went with the single "RailSounds Lite" board. I think the "Lite" is the fact it's a single board that does the...

It is confusing because it looks like no fluid would go into the larger opening. It looks like a simple plug or something. For reference here is a picture of mine.

Well it would yes because it's turned on, but it's going to consume the existing fluid that was likely added during manufacture then it'll start burning the wick.

New Legacy E6 Atlantic

Davety ·
I just received my Great Northern Legacy E6 Atlantic #1707 6-84947 yesterday. Based on the description from the catalog (2017 Signature V2) it was listed as having whistle steam. I know things change from the catalog and when it went up on Lionel's site that had changed to cylinder steam effect emits smoke from the steam chest. Not too big a deal for me, I prefer the whistle smoke over the steam chest smoke but I was fine with that. I was surprised to see on the box that it had the whistle...

I would think if you see smoke coming from the bottom of the engine like " steam chest smoke" a good blow down the stack is due. Use a ear syringe if you are out of breath.....that's what we use at the club (BDSME). JohnB
