Farewell to Dot and Jim of Sidetrack Hobbies

Zach K ·
Folks, it is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that Dot and Jim of Sidetrack Hobbies will be leaving today after being with the store for nearly 10 years. Those of us who were fortunate enough to know Dot and Jim will give nothing but positive praise of their great service and professionalism. Without them and Sidetrack itself I personally would never have gotten into of the wonderful world of O-Gauge trains. For more than five years I enjoyed the drive down to the store, whether it...

What the ..... Those two have been with SideTrack for as long as I have been going there, and I have been going there a looooooong time. I Talk to Jim a lot, and he was very knowledgeable on their products. Dot was always a joy to see and talk to when you first entered the building. I was going to go down there today to pick up a BPC2 but decided to wait; wish I went. They will be missed.

Sidetrack Hobbies is a first-class operation all around. Al and Libby are terrific co-owners, who I always enjoying talking with at York. But easily 70-80% of my phone transactions were always handled by Dottie and Jim. Anytime I'd call, they'd ALWAYS treat me with the utmost professionalism -- much, MUCH more than I receive when calling my power, telephone, or cable utility customer service phone number. Jim and Dottie could run circles around Corporate America's vision of customer service...

I have spoken to Jim a few times when ordering. Unlike most places, since I don't live in the US they had no issue shipping to a hotel I was staying at.

Are the 390 electronics all in the locomotive or does it have the wireless drawbar? Steve

Not reliable either. I have 4 P3 384's with the wireless drawbar and 2 are dead. Really a poorly executed design. Steve

The new 263E do have the "wireless" drawbar. I have a 261E that has it as well. The 261e seems better captured on the locomotive end. The 263E I recieved has had minor issues with the locomotive end not being entirely seated. So far been a minor nuisance.

Unfortunately, no...not at this time. We had asked for a % of our run to be traditional (-0s), but were denied. We still see a demand, albeit small, for traditional versions.

**EXCLUSIVE** LCT 400E & 4-Car Comet Sets - SIDETRACK HOBBIES

Side Track Hobbies ·
We have seen several posts here on the forum, and fielded some calls about upcoming LCT/MTH STD Gauge tinplate sets in development. Here are the basics…MTH wants to produce a limited run of 400e/Comet Car sets. In order to meet minimum manufacturing quantities, they offered select dealers an opportunity to participate. At Sidetrack Hobbies, we are taking this opportunity to bring four (4) exclusive sets to market. We want to do something special….roads never done in tinplate….and...

We are still working on tweaking the sets...and will release images once the cars are finished. The engineering drawings will not do these sets justice. Pricing is still TBD. Two-tone blue/brass is a Blue Comet configuration with brass trim. Many people have asked for this. C&O will be dark blue and yellow. CNW will be dark green and yellow UP will be gray with yellow cars. Christmas will be red with green trim. We will keep everyone informed as this process unfolds. Thanks

Al, Exciting news for sure! Any pics yet for the exclusive sets that SideTrack will offer? Or pics for the non-exclusive sets? What about pricing for the complete sets? From a color/paint perspective, what would be the difference between the two-tone blue/brass trim version and the Blue Comet/brass trim version? Will LCT/MTH be coming out with a new Blue Comet/brass trim version as well? Looking forward to your reply.

These items are still available at great prices. We are out of stock on the Black/Orange 390E and only have a handful of the others. Note color differences from cataloged images on the grey and two-tone blue locomotives. Grey 390E has black wheel instead of red shown in catalog/online and two-tone blue 390E's have cream accent stripes on boiler walkway and on tender body. See MTH product spotlight video below for delivered product colors and operating demonstration.... ...
