I thought I had a tether problem on my PS 2 engine but when I was tracing out the wires between the tender and loco under power, I discovered when the loco connector was moved slightly, everything worked. I removed the boiler casting and with great luck, saw an arc at one of the connector pins. After resoldering the pin, everything works fine. Side Rod

Re: The Terrible Tender Tether - PS2

The Portland Rose ·
I actually like the old tethers better than the new ones. In my opinion, the old tethers carried a more secure electronics connection than the new tether. The old tether had a horizontal connect while the new one has a vertical connect. The vertical connect with plastic prongs and receptacles, with embedded electronics prongs and receptacles that seem smaller in size than the older wired tether, appears it could be more easily dislodged by forces experienced during operation than a...

If you want to modify your tethers, you could use black heat shrink tubing to give a neater appearance.

Lionel Nickle Plate Road 587 (6-84532) Quality Control Issues

AmtrakNickFilms ·
@Dave_Olson @Conrail6358 My Lionel Nickle Plate Road 587 (6-84532) is having quality control issues. The issue is that when I blow the whistle the whistle steam effect is mainly emitting water droplets of smoke fluid and not very much whistle steam. I have not been overfilling this engine at all and I only received it last night. If anyone from Lionel or anyone on the ogrforum knows the solution please let me know. I will post a video of what is happening later Thanks!

functionality of "elephant ears?"

Garrett76 ·
What exactly was the purpose of the elephant ears on steam locomotives and how well did they work? I'm assuming there is some sort of intended aerodynamic effect of the air moving around the forms to create a pressure of vacuum spot. Can anyone explain the functionality and effectiveness? Thanks!

Lionel Pennsylvania 2-10-4 "Texas" Steam Engine #6-28078

Bob DeSando ·
I am hoping someone can help me with a question I have about this older Lionel locomotive. When I acquired it (used), there were no traction tires. The manual states that "four of the drive wheels are fitted with rubber traction tires..." Lacking a diagram that points out which four drive wheels get traction tires, it appears to me that two go on the last right and left wheels in the rear of the engine, and two on the first right and left wheels in the front of the engine. However, I have...

Erie 0-8-8-0 Steam Engine, Premier MTH Catalog, 2003, price is for (2)

Waverly 5 Yard ·
I have since sold this engine and therefore have no reason to keep these catalogs. Originally bought the engine from Just Trains in Newark, Delaware. Great people to work with. Un-Folds three pages to 33". My intent was to frame the one with the perfect cover and then the inside of the other. Together, this would be a nice addition to a train room, especially if you have this engine. I might add that the one I had ran like a dream. Putting a very fair and reasonable price of $30 based on...

Union Pacific Steam Fleet and PTC

What is UP going to do about the upcoming Positive Train Control requirement for their steam fleet? Will they install the technology on the equipment or use a trailing/backup diesel? I'd hate to see a diesel behind the Big Boy just for PTC (or for anything else). I'm aware that some groups are planning on installing it into their locomotives, like the FWRHS with NKP 765, some are planning on using a trailing diesel, like NMSL&RHS with ATSF 2926, and some are completely silent on it, like...
