All, My hunt for a empire builder set has not been successful. Therefore, I am wondering if someone would be willing to part with a Lionel Vision Line CC2s steam locomotive. I am willing to pay $1000 max. Please email me at the email in my profile with condition and price. Thank you, Jstanton.
Has anyone had experience removing the Boiler on one of these... I seem to remember a long while back about being cautioned about it because of the possibility of easily damaging some one of the internal components removing the boiler? Also, it worries me that one can no longer get the Radio Receiver board or the motor driver boards for these. 691RCDR101, RCDR / RADIO RECEIVER (S01 code) ---- unavailable 691DCDS111, DCDS-J MOTOR DRIVER / TETHERED BRIDGE DCDS.HEX ----- unavailable Can other...
Over the years, I have become somewhat frustrated, as a fan of MTH's products, that their smoking whistle first profiled in OGR in the January 2009 issue has been rolled out fairly slowly. The first O scale engine to have the whistle was the 2016 (I believe) Premier Big Boy; in 2017/2018, the whistle was offered in the Challenger. Meanwhile, since Lionel's smoking whistle premiered in 2010 on the Vision CC2 and 2-10-10-2, Lionel has continually expanded the range of models with smoking...
Can someone point me in the right direction to locate a replacement bell cradle for a VL CCS2? Lionel says unavailable and I also sent two emails just for giggles but never heard from them. I've tried the major parts places but no one has one on hand and no recommendations for anyone else to try, I'm stuck. Also, can anyone give me some pointers on the correct direction to take in replacing this part? Any assistance is greatly appreciated!
I will have one in front of me next week from a guy in NY. I will email you. When we are at York, I would like to get a quick crash course on your Super Chuffer. A cold adult beverage could be in your future for your time.
I changed them once. I rather sell the engine then do it again. But Marty is right .Thats how I did mine the little springs are fun .. This engine and the 2-10-10-2 didn't have fee rolling drive trains .
A Lionel tech can get those parts. I work on many of those engines and get the parts. Lionel did this on some Vision items. What you posted are the two parts I use the most. The engine comes apart very easy. You do not need to worry as the parts can be had if you know a certified tech.
John, that locomotive has sprung drivers. With a little work the best way is to drop the wheel set out, do the tires and put the wheels back in. They sure picked the worst driver to put those tires on. Not a fun job, you are correct.
I'm sure you both understand that I want to keep this engine all Lionel but I will definitely take a look at that Precision Scale part. Any input on the correct way to go about replacing this piece? I'm guessing this is nothing like replacing the cradle on a 1225 Polar Express B Jr. Thank you!
Is the cradle brass or plastic? Many are plastic and are a friction fit. The only way to keep it all Lionel is to find that part listed as NLA. Maybe some shop has one but I would bet not. All of the Lionel cradles in stock are meant for the top of the boiler. Not sure how you could bend the base and not break it. Pete
The cradle is metal. Here's the whole assembly. I bought this one some time back as one of my CC2's has a misshapen bell yoke and it's proving difficult to bend it straight to function properly. These are very fragile and are the first thing to get whacked. One day I'll put this one on.
While the MTH Premier Big Boy does have the smoking whistle, it's somewhat of a PITA to use it. What possessed MTH to make it only work when you go through the rain-dance of using the quillable whistle escapes me! Why not just tie it directly to the whistle like Lionel does? On an MTH, I only get the smoking whistle with a bunch of keystrokes.
