Re: Anybody know a source for Lionel's Baby Madison passenger car interiors?

breezinup ·
The most recent versions of the Baby Madisons have interiors and clear windows. You might check on line at the Lionel site for parts for recent Madisons, and see if they're available. Good idea to check with the Train Doctor at Brasseur's, too, if that doesn't work.

I wonder if it wouldn't be cheaper to buy the new cars and just sell the old ones? I'm guessing that buying significant parts like that will get expensive.

Re: Anybody know a source for Lionel's Baby Madison passenger car interiors?

breezinup ·
Taking a quick look at the Lionel parts site, it doesn't look like interiors are available for the Baby Madisons. Actually, it seems like many of the parts for these cars are unavailable, although the clear window strip parts are showing. Looks like the only option may in line with gunrunnerjohn's comment - have to buy new cars to get the parts.

Lionel 21" Passenger Cars "Southern"

I bought the Lionel 21" Stations sounds Dinning car "Southern" and was looking to buy the other 21" passenger cars-specifically the Observation Car and the Coach Car but have not found them anywhere - wonder if the "Southern" is not that popular in rest of the country but thought that here in North Carolina I would be able to find them. I have sent emails to some of the advertisers on this site with no luck - just looking for ideas - not in a rush to get them but would like to get by years end.

Plastic vs Aluminum Passenger Cars

Will Ebbert ·
Curious how others feel about this. I actually really prefer plastic passenger cars to aluminum. I have plastic and aluminum cars from Lionel, Golden Gate Depot, and K-Line plus plastic cars from Atlas and MTH and in all cases think the detail and overall look of the plastic cars is better. To me the detail is a lot crisper and the contours look more accurate. The cost is also a nice benefit of plastic cars.

Closer to the release of Edition 9 (November 30, 2018) I will release a video on the magazine's YouTube channel with a full-length review of the locomotive. I would...

Premier Blue Comet Passenger Cars - Cataloged Separately?

Here is one of the nicest postwar sets I've come across. The is the first generation 2400 series passenger cars being pulled by a 672 turbine. Condition is super excellent, just a few nicks on the loco. I had this tuned up when I first got it 6 years ago. Engine runs beautifully, smokes and whistles. Close coupling for Lionel and MTH passenger coaches - does it exist?

PeteDownUnder ·
There appears to be many types and brands of close coupling systems for HO, but nothing I can find for O scale. I am keen to replace the large knuckle couplings on my Lionel and MTH passenger coaches to make them close coupled, the diaphragms touching in the straights, but opening up around O72 down to O27 curves. Obviously the length of the passenger coach will have a lot of influence over the ability of the coupling to perform its job. Has there ever been an after market product...

Hello All, I just got back from the Train Meet in York today and we purchased a MTH Southern Cresent E-3 and I found some Williams 72 Streamlined Passenger Cars that I thought would match it perfectly! One problem, I have two pieces of O-31 curves because of the shape of our layout, the rest are O-42 and O-54. Budd RDC Video

Dan Padova ·
I came across this film about the RDC this evening. I found it interesting. I can't help but wonder, if the railroads were able to convert most of their passenger trains to RDCs, would they have fared better, financially. As you can see in the film, they were and are very versatile. A single train can be split in two at a point where two final destinations were required. There would not be a need for locomotive changes as each unit is self propelled. Along with baggage/mail RDCs, I am sure...

Just got my CSX office cars and put them on the track. They look great behind the CSX F40PH. The problem I am having is that the couplers would keep coming unhooked and I thought it was a problem with the couplers until I noticed that the spring couplers t hat are to extend when going around curves do not always extend and that is what is binding the cars. Re: ??RE: What should I expect to pay for this used MTH steam engine and cars??

Mark V. Spadaro ·
Check product availability on the MTH Product Locator. That will give you an idea of scarcity. You'd have to find a price point between $475 and $950 that you're comfortable with. If possible, since not new, ask to see & run the item before buying. Remember, an out of warranty repair is always a possibility for an MTH train, and that has to be a big factor in your pricing.

Something else to consider is weather it is a dealer or a individual that is selling the item. Usually, you get a better deal from an individual, however a dealer may have gone over the item to insure that it is in good condition. You must weigh the facts. If it is rare and hard to come by, it may command a higher price due to supply and demand. Frank

The MTH product locator indicates that no dealers have the locomotive in stock. That doesn't mean that a dealer somewhere in this vast country doesn't have one, but it's sure going to be a bit of a hunt. If you have actually seen that locomotive that you have your eyes on--the one with three hours of run time--you should be in a relatively good position to deal a bit with the seller. If the locomotive is really in like-new condition in all respects, and with just three hours of run time, I...

You can use a search of your stock number and a choice of words until you find one or more in stock somewhere in the USA. Sometimes internet hobby shops have not updated and you will need to contact them one by one via email or phone until there is one in stock. If you do find one somewhere, have money ready for it. I would never pay more than 50%, but if you really want it figure out how much a circuit board repair would be, MTH experts could chime in on the price to repair PS2, $200 I would imagine, and go from there, the cars really have nothing to go wrong with them so no worries there, but still should be discounted.

You're getting plenty of sound opinion on the topic, I think. You're also fortunate to have the same engine up on E-bay currently that will provide an idea about the desirability of this item in the secondary market. That auction has 9 bidders interested and the final price realized in that auction could be a fair barometer for your own buying consideration.
