Hi Fellows, Has anyone else observed low smoking on their Hudson? It seems to be very thin compared to my other big MPC/LTI engines (8606, 18003, 18016) . I put in 3 drops and it will smoke after a lap and then modestly for 2 laps of my 23' x 12' 072 loop and then mostly stops. I am a new member so if this has been discussed before, please bear with me. Thanks Willz

Backshop Premier Edition 446 (6-22918) Smoke unit issues

ToledoEd ·
I have a love-hate relationship with this accessory. It is a TMCC controlled accessory. I've replaced the mother board and the sound board. I rewired it as Lionel described to allow the Cab to turn on and control the smoke unit and the doors and the motorized accessories. Since I've owned it, the smoke unit produced a wafting smoke stream, very light, but constant. A few weeks ago, I goofed and dropped fluid into the air intake hole, not the smoke hole. At the time, it didn't seem to affect...

This worked fine when I pulled it out of the car. Now the element gets quite hot, but the smoke is minimal at best. Perhaps it needs the wicking rearranged/treplaced? I doubt it has anything to do with the unit works in...

Help Needed On Smoke Issues

I am having problems on deciding on using mth protosmoke or mega smoke on my mth engines. I have a new mth long island alco diesel that smokes very lightly. After a while I find myself adding more fluid as the smoke seems to dwindle. Is this normal? I don't want to over fill the engine with fluid. I'm experiencing the same issue with a big boy ps1 steam engine as well. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Issue with smoke unit (but maybe something else?)

Mike Summerville ·
Hi All, A friend brought over a LionMaster SD-80 that was running great for him but suddenly stopped smoking. A quick check revealed that the fan motor would start to spin then halt. Thinking it could be the motor, I put in a new fan motor but same result. In checking out the new motor I also noticed a clicking noise that sounds like maybe a relay opening & closing? I did re-program the engine code just in case that had been messed up but no change. Appreciate...

Lionel Smoke fluid Loader/Use

Hi Guys, As the original designer of the Smoke Loader I would be interested in how your using it. Hint: best way to get the loader up and running the first time. Program the unit, then put Run/Program switch in program mode hold down the brake key to prime the pump, this will get you up and running fast. don't forget to put something under the spout as it will stream fluid. It's always best to start this way for a given Train running session. Ernie

Rail King Dash 8 Proto Sound 2.0 Diesel Died When Attached to DCS Digital Commander

My friend bought a Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl Train (30-4171-1) set made in 2006. Everything worked fine until he bought an MTH DCS Commander System w/100 Watt Power Supply (50-1029). The engine turned on after we added it, went about a foot then stopped. It smelled like something electronic smoked. The big difference between the Z-1000T Transformer With Controller, and the DCS Commander is the Z1000 puts AC to the tracks and the DCS puts DC. Could the DC Voltage smoke the engine?

Legacy GP-7 Smoke Unit does not shut off when engine is shut down

I know there have been posts regarding the earlier legacy engines (6-28567) where the smoke units will not shut off or will come on upon power up. I couldn't tell if there was a fix. My GP7 smoke unit keeps running after I shut the engine down. I hear the fan running and smoke continues to come out. Sometimes I can turn it off by pressing the smoke off button on the CAB or shutting down power to the track. Is there a fix for this or will just have to run this thing with no smoke.

Lionel Smoke Unit Tune-up

Many times folks complain about the weak smoke from older TMCC locomotives with Lionel's fan drive smoke unit. When it's used stock, I tend to agree. However, it's possible to get MTH-like smoke from the Lionel unit when driven by the R2LC smoke output, you just have to take a few modification steps. It's a lot easier to do this than to retrofit the MTH smoke unit, after all, the Lionel one is already mechanically mounted. Replace the stock resistor with an MTH 16 ohm resistor. Drill out the...
