Railsounds Commander Backfeeding E-unit

TomP ·
This weekend I installed an ERR Railsounds Commander (RSC) into a conventional K-Line Alco S-2 that dates from the late 80's or early 90's. Its a great engine, that runs smooth and has a ton of power. The only things missing were the sounds of a four stroke diesel to go along with it. It was a tight squeeze getting the extra components under the engine's low hood. I had to reroute the original wiring and remove most of the counter-weights. But it sounds really good! The only problem is that...

WTB: Lionel, K-Line, & MTH catalogs, flyers, & LRRC, KCC, MTHRRC newsletters

phrankenstign ·
I've been working on a web-site, "Phrankenstign's UNAUTHORIZED Train Catalog & Flyer Gallery" (phrankenstign.com) for over a year. It is my attempt to include front and back pictures of every single catalog and flyer the following companies put out: Lionel, K-Line, and MTH. (I've started including other companies, but I don't have an abundance of stuff for those companies: Athearn, Atlas, Bachmann, Broadway Limited Imports, L.G.B., Right-Of-Way Industries Incorporated, Tyco, Walthers,...

K-line Shay no sounds

DavidR ·
I just purchased a NIB K-Line shay, and cannot figure out how to turn on the sounds. I'm using legacy control, and set up for a TMCC locomotive per the Lionel video. The loco runs, the lights light, the couplers fire, but no sound. I have the sound switch set to full, and the volume control on the PCB turned to max (the user manual mentions a volume control on the bottom of the loco, but I couldn't find one). I disconnected the legacy base from the track and pulled the power to it so I could...

The attached photos are both sides of the burned-out circuit board from a K-Line Crusader smoke unit. Also pictured is the entire smoke unit with board removed. Would anyone know where to find the board, with attached resistor and gasket? I would be happy to find the entire smoke unit if it comes with resistor board pre-installed.

KTM 2-8-4 Berkshire with restricting hydraulic lines on rear truck

Dirk ·
I have this 2-8-4 Berkshire that has hydraulic lines under back cab corners, which vastly restrict side-to-side motion of the rear truck, so that it won't even run on 072. So I want to remove them, but not sure how. They are made out of metal, and look to be a ball and socket design, so that they swivel as the rear truck moves. I'm pretty sure they do not just "pop" in or out, and would like to remove them intact if possible. The locomotive looks like an older model. Looking for ideas. Thanks!

Disappointed with O-Line O72 switch tracks

Dan Padova ·
In the continued tested of my new layout, I have been trying out several of the locomotives I have purchased over the past couple of years. Some are post-war Lionel, some are K-Line and also RMT. When the K-Line and RMT locomotives pass over an O-Line O72 switch track, they will stall. Unless I move the loco by hand, it will not regain power. You can imagine my dissapointment. The RMT locos I have tested are a pair of Beefs (tethered together) and the #51 Navy switcher Beep. The Beefs fair...

Bringing the Silver Meteor back to Hamlet

Hamlet Depot ·
Hey gang: We at the Hamlet Depot Museum embarked on a major undertaking a few years back. We're bringing Seaboard Air Line's flagship passenger train, the Silver Meteor, back to Hamlet -- in O-scale 2-rail, at least. Maybe ya'll will enjoy following along on this journey; hence the motivation for starting this topic. We were inspired by the fine work of PRRTRAINGUY, who built a fabulous 12-car version of the Silver Meteor, or the "Meter" as we often refer to it. Our first thought was to...

Plastic vs Aluminum Passenger Cars

Will Ebbert ·
Curious how others feel about this. I actually really prefer plastic passenger cars to aluminum. I have plastic and aluminum cars from Lionel, Golden Gate Depot, and K-Line plus plastic cars from Atlas and MTH and in all cases think the detail and overall look of the plastic cars is better. To me the detail is a lot crisper and the contours look more accurate. The cost is also a nice benefit of plastic cars.

Wiring a K-Line GG1 For Overhead Power ?

I'd like to convert my K-Line GG1 to run on overhead power. I removed the body and noticed that there is a wiring harness already wired to the two lugs under the pantographs.
