Alco PA #59L restoration project

rslaser ·
I'm sure many of you on this forum are aware of the ongoing restoration of former Santa Fe Alco PA #59L at the Museum of the American Railroad. Currently the museum is trying to acquire a MLW HR412 from the Arkansas & Missouri RR. Just wanted to share this because the project is in a critical phase, as they are pretty much down to the wire in the collecting of funds needed to get this donor locomotive. Here are a couple of links, hopefully, where you can go to read more about it. Thanks...

Good Train Day in Lansdale, PA

Moonman ·
The grandchildren, the wife and I made the trip to Lansdale. We visited the Holiday Display with a lot of nice trees including "Trains in the Tree", the North Penn O Gaugers modular layout and Henning's Trains. Met the Hennings, picked up some goodies in the store. Then had a bite to eat and gave Santa our list. Good folks all around. The grandchildren had fun. We also discovered another treat. Our granddaughter wanted a magic wand for some time. It just happens that there is a magic shop on...

If anyone has these side frames, I would like to purchase at least one pair or even one side frame. FOUND THE FRAMES. CHARLIE PHILLIPS has them.

It's a very large "O" scale layout 24'x55' 3 levels tall. We run mostly MTH DCS engines, up to 12 trains running at once. There is also an Old School Lionel Tinplate layout, like the kind your Dad may have put up at Christmas time. We even have trolleys and an old time Anthracite Colliery that dumps coal...

Before I start to re-paint, any market for Weaver Masonic Freight Cars from the Weaver C-1 Masonic Set?

[4K] AVR 405 leads freight train in Venetia, PA (video)

pittsburghrailfan ·
Just uploaded today. Here is the Allegheny Valley Railroad's Washington turn, known as AVR-3, as it travels back to Pittsburgh on the ex-CSX, nee-B&O mainline. The power for the short train was AVR 405 (road slug), AVR GP40-3 4005, and AVR GP11 2008. The GP11 was dead-in-tow; the train was much longer in the morning, so I heard. This is also my first truly 4K UHD video.

New RK UP 1943 set and freight cars w/pictures and video

Went to the Tent sale of Nickolos Smith in Bromall Pa. and while I was there picked up my order of the RK UP 1943 set and the six freight cars. Allot of things on sale and almost everything 10% to 20% off. The RK UP 1943 spirit of the Union Pacific and caboose is very well done with extra detail. The 40' hi cubes are also great with separate ladders on the corners and paint schemes are very well done. Some of the best RK freight cars I have seen. Very happy with the entire set.

Diesel Mismatched Lash-ups

Dan Padova ·
I've always wondered how lash-ups of different types of diesels worked together. In the latest issue of Classic Trains, there are some photos of Alco, PAs, FAs and an F3 B unit as the motive power for a train. I can almost understand, though not fully, how one manufacturers different locos can work. However, with the combination I mentioned in my first paragraph, how do the units coordinate as far as speed and pulling power ?

Lionel PA programing Problem

pennsyforever ·
Just took delivery on the PRR Lionel PA (1933191) and PB (1933193). After fully programing the engines, when placed on the same track with other engines already programed, the new engines will not respond and have to be reprogramed. The new programing works fine (crew sounds, signals, engine sounds, speed) until the unit is placed on a powered track with other locomotives, then the engine will not respond. Only happens with these two new PA/PB units. Any one else having this issue? Pennsyforever

Lionel PA programing Problem

pennsyforever ·
MY PRR ALCO PA/PB ABBA works 75%. The two B units program and hold the program after shut down and start up. Same for the powered, non-voiced A unit. However the Powered Railsounds A unit is worse than before I sent it for repair. Headlight does not work and you cannot program it at all. I have never seen such slipshod work. Makes me long for the reliability of 3rd rail products, which I also own. Hard to believe that after five months I still do not have a 100% working product. Pennsyforever

Dents Run Railroad

geysergazer ·
The Dents Run Railroad (Dents Run, Pa about 30mi East of Dubois) was originally built to bring White Pine and later Hemlock logs down to the mill. About the time the forest was stripped bare of timber a coal mine opened several miles up Dents Run and a company town named Wilmer was built. The railroad then hauled coal from the mine until the Flood of '36 took out the bridge across the West Branch of Sinnemahoning Creek. That eliminated interchange with the PRR and that was the end of the...
