Does ANYONE have any "EXPLODED DIAGRAMS of 3 volt and 5 Volt PS 2.0 BOARDS?????

kennyb ·
Hello, I am trying to learn a lot more about these fabulous MTH trains that we all know and love!!! I have a deep desire to be able to perform simple repairs for myself, and I have a true passion to learn more about their inner workings. After 37 years, you would think that MTH would have somekind of common repair manual available. But they have kept everything TOP SECRET,exceot for a privileged few people. I want to be able to look at a 3 or 5 volt board, and name the IC components, and know...

6-84260 SD40 front coupler - exploded view diagram?

ted K ·
I am replacing the front coupler on a Lionel Legacy SD40 item 6-84260 I received the parts from Lionel but there was no documentation or exploded view that showed the proper repair/replacement. I did find the parts diagram on Lionels Website but it does not show the installation - there is a small bracket that sits on two pegs and then the coupler is fitted on the bracket - there is a spring that fits in the small bracket - but i am not sure how to set it on the bracket - so i was wondering...

Lionel 691PMB2101 Powered Railsounds 4 Motherboard

Sid's Trains ·
So Lionel shows they still have some of the old RS4 powered motherboards. That's fine and all , but in comparison to the err manual for the old Rail sounds commander there is a slight difference. The Lionel is missing the volume pot and instead has an extra 3 pins next to the speaker connection. My question is what is the wiring situation with the Lionel board compared to the ERR board. I am planning to buy one from Lionel and would like to the know the different wiring for the Lionel one.

I think it should be silkscreened on the back of the module.

John Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately it is not marked on the bottom. I have searched the net and forum and Lionel suppliments for this info and can't find anywhere. I have a number of these modules which are "new old stock" and would like to use them for simple bell horn sounds. Below are additional photos. PN on this module is 691-ISND-GA(02) Thank you, Terry

I looked around, and I have similar modules, but not that exact one. Most of mine have the silkscreen for the functions.

John Thank you so much for making the effort and looking for this for me! Obviously the boards I have are a much older design. I will see if I can find an older loco with trainsounds and trace out the wiring if necessary. I'm also looking forward to seeing your TMCC signal booster! I also saw in another post that you were lamenting the lack of Lionel training classes to earn a Lionel Certified Tech. I think Lionel should award you an HONARY certification. You obviously are more knowledgeable...

John My local Train Shop lent me a Trainsounds Tender. I traced out the wiring which is shown below. Should be the same for a diesel without the Chuff. Thanks again!

Re: Lionel Trainsounds Module Connection Diagram

That's great, I'm sure the diesel and steam are similar wiring. It's interesting to note that my later boards seem to be similar but connectors not in the same places.

Re: Lionel Trainsounds Module Connection Diagram

Yes, different places, different connectors and different functions... Lionel must have made enhancements to the trainsounds from the earlier versions.

Bruk has done some great work on this. He is also a certified Lionel Tech. Until many of us can get back to Lionel school, we will all use this great work. John, on my best day I could not put out the information he has done. If anyone else could have done it, they would have. I always appreciate good work and he nailed it. People in the hobby appreciate the great work you have done with Lionel products. We live at a good time in the hobby with some great products.

I think the numbers are reversed. Is the cab number 5444? If so, the item number is 28072. Can you take a picture of the boards in the tender? Are all of the wires destroyed? If so it doesn't bode well for the boards. Pete

When I had burnt wiring in the Genset, I saw that no harnesses were listed in the parts fiche for that model. I then found harnesses that I could make up what I needed (number of wires and appropriate connectors) by searching thru hundreds of harnesses I found with the search term "Harness" in the search for Replacement Part Number or Name. There were two different connector sizes (in addition to number of wires). They were listed in Digikey as 2mm JST PH series and 2.5mm JST EH series. And...

I am guessing to melt wire you need power. Suspect the red black wires in the 2 pin black Molex Micro Fit or if a battery is used, those wires. The IR receiver, coupler, and rear lights should be OK unless we are talking actual flames. Pete

Sorry guys I did get the numbers reversed..........it is the 28072 and the wires are so burnt and stuck together I cannot identify what wire goes to where. Thanks for all the suggestions and I will look at each one suggested including the part numbers from Chuck. For Gunnrunnerjohn I too have that wiring diagram and that is the one I will use once I get the harness built. I was able to find several of the different connectors on the Lionel site and between them and Digikey I think I will...

The 2.5mm connectors are the JST-EH series , and the 2mm connectors are the JST-PH series connectors. Note that in spite of the fact the pins look similar, they are NOT compatible, you need the correct pins for each series of connectors, they appear at the bottom of the page for each connector shell. I use the Engineer PA-09 Crimp Tool to crimp these.
