BCR works fine in the PS/1 locomotives, that's what it was originally designed for I believe.

MTH Camelback Drawbar Short

Dick Autz ·
While running my MTH 30-1638-1 Camelback Steam Engine I noticed sparking between the Engine and Tender. Looking closer I found the Drawbar attachment screw had backed out and the screw head was dragging on the tracks. I fumbled the parts but got it back together. Now when trying to start up in conventional mode, AC, the Engine seems completely dead, no headlight, no movement. The red Tender Clearance Lights do light up, and the Horn & Bell work. Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot...

Info on CNJ Tender Steam Generator

Trainmstr ·
Looking for information on the steam generators CNJ used to power their passenger cars. These generators were mounted on the deck of the tender near the water hatch. Trying to find pictures and/or dimensions. Would be happy with the dimensions of the generator MTH uses on their Premier CNJ Camelbacks, better yet the part number so I can buy some. Willing to create a 3D model so I can print copies for my CNJ engines if necessary. Thanks for any responses.

Dick, I just finished a drawbar connector problem on a Railking steam engine. I also do the repair work for the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum. If the problem persists after a factory reset, feel free to contact me, You can find me in my profile. bruce

G & Bruce, first, thank you. I was able to get it to respond to the Remote on the DCS System, and on the second try it did remove the Engine on Factory Reset. It then was able to find the Engine OK. After Start-Up, the Bell and Whistle, and most other sound things I tried worked OK. I repeated the process again. Still no Headlight, Smoke, or movement. I tried the PFA routine and after the final Bell, no change of status. So close, yet so far. Your opinions are appreciated. Dick

Re: MTH Camelback Drawbar Short

Barry Broskowitz ·
Dick, Assuming the power pickups are on the tender, since tender-based features work and engine-based features do not, it sounds like the the place to begin troubleshooting is with the connection between the engine and the tender, i.e., the wireless drawbar connections.

Re: MTH Camelback Drawbar Short

Thanks Barry, I did take the drawbar out and used an ohmmeter and all the traces seem to be OK. No shorts between pins and continuity good. I also tried conventional mode using an MRC Dual Power Supply but hand no luck doing a Factory Reset with the Horn and Bell buttons. Are there special signals for Horn and Bell from an MTH Z4000 or should the MRC work as well? Matter of interest, what is the signaling for Horn and Bell. Not being an Engine repair person, I assume its time to find someone...

Thanks everyone for trying to help. Problem solved. One grey ground wire in Engine drawbar connector had pulled loose. Once reinstalled the boiler board smoked, and after replacement all is well with my Mother Hubbard.

Re: Info on CNJ Tender Steam Generator

Hot Water ·
To be correct they were NOT "steam generators", but steam DRIVEN electric generators, which provided electricity for the trailing commuter passenger cars. I remember them, but have no idea about their size.
