Re: DCS TIU questions/problems

Barry Broskowitz ·
Gray, Your wiring is suspect. Further, I had some difficulty understanding exactly how you're wired. I suggest that you use a simple star wiring method: with center rail-isolated track blocks that have one and only one connection to a TIU channel, via a terminal block. The DCS Companion 3rd Edition and The DCS WiFi Companion 2nd Edition both have detailed, illustrated discussions of how to use star wiring effectively. If it's new it might not need an upgrade? I would set it up and get things going with the remote first and then do any upgrades, add wifi, etc. if needed. Of course, the reading should still be first on the list before setting things up. If you don't have Barry's book(s) (DCS Companion and/or Wifi Companion) I would get that/those as well.

DCS--Fixed 1 channel

JimRK ·
I have a HO switching layout using a DCS controller and wifi. Both work just fine. Due to a 'short', fixed 1 is now none functional, with the message 'cannot find TIU'? I moved power-in and power-out to fixed 2 and everything works great. I checked all TIU fuses and they are fine. Changed back to 'fixed1''and everything was again none functional. According to ' DCS COMPANION 3' the problem is in 'fixed1' channel. Is there a reset involved or do I have to return the TIU to MTH? The answer may...

Jim, any version of DCS 4.0 and up generally works fine. Not necessarily. There were several ugly bugs that were present in releases prior to DCS 4.30 that were corrected in DCS 4.30 and newer releases of DCS. However, if you plan to run TMCC/Legacy engines without purchasing the app, make sure your TIU and remote are operating DCS 5.0 or below, because DCS 6.0 will not let you run Legacy engines without purchasing the Premium app. That's not quite correct. In order to operate legacy engines...

Frank, This excerpt from the DCS WiFi Companion, page 85. should provide some insight: 1. External TIU Power Providing Power to the TIU Like any other electronic component, the TIU requires a power source. MTH designed the TIU so that it can be powered in two different ways. One way is to use the track power that is present at the inputs to TIU Fixed Channel #1. This power source is available whenever the O gauge operator is running trains on tracks connected to Fixed Channel #1. Another way...

GUNRUNNERJOHN or Barry....I did notice on p.48 of 'COMPANION 3' under DCS SETUP, that a 'variable channel' can be changed to a 'fixed channel'. I ASSUME if my remaining Fixed-2 became dead (ie cooked trace), I could then set a variable to fixed (this would give me 2 more fixed channels). Ido not run conventional only command. It may seem like a silly question but then again this is DCS and Mr Murphy is always lurking. Again, thank you all.

Same rules apply. Also, note that if the WIU is connected to a Rev.
