Thank you for posting this. I also collect New Marx et al Christmas cars, and this gives me a bit of info as to what was made that I haven't seen. Here's a picture of my Christmas train: The engine and tender are original Marx (I repainted the engine), followed by a green Christmas tree flatcar, a Santa in door boxcar, a Rudolph in door boxcar, the musical Santa's private coach, and a Christmas caboose. J White, You've got a real gem in the Musical Santa's Private Coach. You're one of only two people I know who have one! The engine and tender look GREAT pulling the Christmas cars. I love the tin houses. Where did you get them?

Thanks for the kind words. The engine was my first try at a repaint in quite some time. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it turned out. I still need to replace or repair the headlight socket, as it has a short in it somewhere. I didn't plan on using the red tender with the engine, but it matched close enough for my liking, so I stuck with it. I was going to repaint an 8 wheel wedge tender to match the engine. I don't recall where the musical car came from. I thought I bought it on...

Hello my I sure love red Marx Commodore Vanderbilt locomotive and red tender and rest of your Christmas train it looks so cool and very neat. I bet it is fun to run on your Christmas layout and runs great too. Those Commodore Vanderbilt locomotives are great engines. I have few myself and I run them a lot too My favorite Marx locos are the 333, 666, 999 and Commodore Vanderbilt locomotives. Marx the toughtest trains ever built made in USA too. To that is the very cool part. Very easy to...

You Lucky Dogs! Where did you both find them. I've never found one for offer...and I'm afraid if I did it would be too rich for my blood. I'd love to hear them to see what they sound like. Would either of you guys be able to post a video with sound of it?

MARXTINMAN Here's a picture of the prototype for the 73512 Christmas Snow Gondola. As you can see there are differences between prototype and production. You are welcome to add this picture to your reference. If the size of the posted picture isn't good enough for your purposes just let me know and I'll send you a larger one.

Evidence of return on investment

One main reason for building my layout- time for “PaPa” to share life lessons with grandkids. I had the opportunity to share the layout over xmas. Beckham is 21 months old. Two weeks later....

I miss those days with my boys, and they were cut short for my youngest. We moved when they were 5 and 2. New kids the older boy friended informed them that Thomas was “stupid”, and both boys stopped playing with them. I am still ****ed off at those kids. Still have all of the wooden trains, just in case....

Those wooden Thomas the Train items are about the only thing I saved from my sons possessions when he was young. They're still in good shape and hold their value well not that I'd sell them. He can use them for his kids one day. He can have everything but the train table - I used that to hold all my power supplies, controllers, etc for my layout. He quickly graduated to real trains but like most, lost interest around 7 or 8. Fortunately, we share common interests in other areas and as...

Rod Stewart ·
I thought "return on investment" might have to do with our O Gauge trains. Now that would have been funny! Seriously that age is great for an intro to trains. My 4-1/2 year old grandson has been playing with Brio since about age 2. Loves it. Rod

Rod The investment is in my Trains- toward the end of capturing time and teaching valuable lessons to my grandkids. (Similar to bait) Beckham was thrilled over xmas to see my layout, and is now enamored with the “Choo choo.” This part is a bonus. I understand that Sir Rod Stewart has built an enormous train layout.
